What size of Generator would I need...?

Hello everyone!

Shed is up, the next plan is electricity in it...

A connection is eye wateringly expensive, so much so that it is out of the question.

A idea that I have is that I have plenty of tractors, so why not have a tractor mounted generator?

Noise is a downside I suppose, but, I could put the tractor outside?

The question is... how much capacity should I be looking for?

I'll want to power...

Lights
Arc Welder
Inverter Welder
New Manchester Saw
Grinders
Pillar Drill
Steam Cleaner
Kettle
Microwave

Or a combination of the above...

Suggestions, anyone?

Fairly frequently...

I have plenty of tractors, I could leave it on one of them all the time.

Start it up, drive it out, plug it in, away we go.

For just popping in and out and the like there are some battery LED lights to be had, a bit like these...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-Battery-Powered-PIR-Motion-Sensor-Light-Bar-with-Stick-on-Magnetic-Strip-/391667576458?var=&hash=item5b you bought a genset type3134ee8a:m:mwWUS9W_aEnwel2Fu7NyH6Q
if you bought a genset type you would have single/3 phase ,they use little fuel ,

If it's for regular use I'd have a silent genny permanently setup.
I'd get very bored of having to get a tractor out every time I wanted some power.
But if you can put up with that then a pto genny would work, be more expensive to run than a proper one though I expect. Tractors don't enjoy sitting still roaring away.

Nonsense question really, but...

Would my little 46hp DB be happy to turn it on 1000 PTO, so only doing 1100 engine revs...

Worried that it will either abuse it, or, be light running causing it to glaze...

No idea really, but guess the output is reliant on constant revs, and running a 540 machine on 1000 gearing usually ends up with lots of variation under load.

Many years ago ,my ex boss used a pto genny to power a potato grading line in field ,,first day using it ,the relays in the starter boxes kept tripping out ,,wasnt untill the sparky came to test everything ,he found that even running it at 540 the genny was running slightly above its rated output ,,just have to be very carefull with them
