What size press for the farm workshop?

Depends what you want to press I made a frame a few weeks ago to use a 20t bottle jack as a press for a particular job, already used it twice for other jobs

Pressing bearings in and out straightening rake tine arms to start with.

20t will do most jobs but bigger the better tbh. One thing to watch for when comparing is the size of the table as some are very narrow so limiting the size of item which can be pressed down through the bed

we got a 50t i think air operated from Howden tools, good machine and they were cheaper than anywhere else, as in a manuel one anywhere else was as dear or dearer than this in Howden

It's not so much the tonnage as the table area I find. The little 6 or 10 ton you'll struggle to get much bigger than a bearing housing under them.
I got a cheapo 50t a few years ago same as this but about half the price and it's been brilliant. Never had it much above 20t though

I have a 30t air operated and not found anything I couldn’t shift or straight (as yet).
A press is a must have tool for any farm workshop! I wouldn’t like to guess at the number of times it’s saved the day.

The bigger the better. You can do a small job on a big press, but you can't do a big job on a small press.

we have a 20 t and never been beaten with it. what is handy is its a foot pump so you can use both hands to hold stuff in place.

Dad went for a nosey, I mean went and lifted. Went for a few other things and probly will give them a call for other stuff but deal over the phone, we are a lot closer than you, about 15 minutes from Aughnacloy

Agree bigger is better. We've a 50t, although never been that high, usually get scared at about 30t!

I've got a 30t floor standing.
It's not half the machine a secondhand factory one would be, I expect, but for a few £00 I've yet to beat it. Best of all it takes up no room.
