What size workshop compressor?

Considering buying a compressor to power airtools and pumping up tractor tyres, what size do you suggest and make? What size generator will I need to power it?
Shed I am moving to has no
electricty.

Size of compressor depends on what air tools you've got really. I wouldn't get less than 25 CFM but truthfully I'm using less and less air now....heck of a lot of stuff is very adequate (better than adequate!) on rechargeable rather than compressed air; drills, cordless impact guns, slit-disc angle grinder etc. Compressor just for blowing out and inflating tyres?

Might swing your decision making a bit...

I run one of these, 5.5hp and 17.7cfm although it may be a little big for your application as it’s 3ph.

I find it ideal for running air tools, spray painting, blowing small stuff down and even run a small blast cabinet with it. You don’t want something that will be running constantly to keep up with what your doing otherwise it won’t last long!
I have an industrial one (125cfm) for bigger applications like shot blasting etc. Personally I wouldn’t go any smaller than 15cfm and 200L for a workshop.

Many Thanks certainly food for thought.
Gets me thinking about solar panels for lighting.
Compressor and generator also fodder for scum to pinch!!!
Battery powered tools easy to keep
in truck and take home.
I must add that I would only use the tools infrequently as NOT a workshop.

I'd definitely be thinking cordless then. You could tie up a lot of money in a compressor and big generator. A suitcase inverter genny, like a Honda EU20 (or whatever the new ones are called) are great/quiet/sip juice as they don't need to have their tits rev'd off especially if your using them as backup power.

Install high efficiency LEDs for lighting and some batteries with solar panels to keep them topped off, with a cheap solar charge controller. Remote GSM type alarm for intruder alerts etc.

From a power tools / air / electric etc perspective I'd approach install in remote sheds and workshops in a completely different way to what I would'e done 20 years ago...
