What spray for Buttercups?

Hello,

I've been asked to spray some pasture to kill off buttercups, what spray should I use?

I was always told that buttercups were a sign of acidic land and it was lime that was required, I don't think that that is an option this time though...

We had a buttercup plague in one area. Not being a fan of chemicals as an instant cure I cut them hard. This was three years ago. The grass has improved and the buttercups have declined. I think that cutting the runners in between each plant gave them a headache that they haven't got rid of yet.

I'm pretty sure MCPA isn't the ingredient in H.Polo that gives buttercups a kicking, but the 2-4D. Headland Staff is 2-4D, cheap as chips, and will knock them very hard. IME, no hormone chem will 'kill' them properly, but will reduce numbers drastically if timing is right.

Forefront is about the only thing I've found that will kill them out, but lots of restrictions on use and many times the cost of H.Staff. In reality, you could spray with Staff for several years on the trot for the cost of one application of Forefront, and you'd still have most of the clover there (but knocked hard).
