What the hell is going on?

My gripe is with the fact we have people traveling to India to see relatives but I would not be able to visit relatives indoors 2 miles away as things stand

I sympathise. But let's be clear that the ones going to India to visit relatives are breaking the law doing so. Do you also have a gripe that some are doing 90 on the A9 whilst you're stuck to 60?

Why is it illegal for me to go to my friends house 2 miles away yet you can visit family in India? Or go there to get married?

Over a year of restrictions the government expects us to live by yet they let people travel round the world and threaten us with new variants which could put us back to square one.

You are possibly of the wrong ethnic group. One of those things. Hey ho.

As far as I know I could be fined for visiting a relative or friends house 2 miles away. Numerous businesses remain closed and some may never open again.

Yet boder patrol or what ever they are called aka the government are allowing people to board a plane to fly to India to get married.

When I have travelled my passport has been checked for a residency permit. They really aren’t allowing people willy nilly onto planes. You have to have a valid reason eg work etc or be a resident/passport holder of the country you are travelling to. There are plenty delays at Airports as all your paperwork is checked I doubt many people are travelling for fun these days. It’s all a bit of a red herring whilst they see if the vaccines work remember the variant that’s causing trouble in Europe is the Kent one.

I'm only going on that bbc article where a couple went to India to get married in March. Another man is stuck because he was visiting family. Have seen other sources suggesting there is still a fair bit of unnecessary travel. I don't know the truth but seems to still be people moving about without legitimate reasons

Obviously people lie but they may have Indian passports and UK residency but as you said as a white male I was questioned on my reason for leaving, my wife an Indian with a Kenyan passport was allowed out no problem maybe there’s a plan.

As @Lowland1 wrote, plenty getting stopped and having travel curtailed for not having a legitimate reason, just as plenty are getting away with visiting friends' houses 2 miles away without being caught. I read that some London hotels are getting their check in records inspected by police to confirm that guests have legitimate reasons for staying.

I heard an anecdotal tale of a very large funeral on Skye recently, but wouldn't dare suggest that it means all west coasters are law breaking. But yes, plenty seem to be moving around without legitimate reasons.

I know of 2 lots of people coming from London area to their scottish estates/ retreat before Easter before the travel restrictions eased. Seems to be a case of I've got money so to hell with everyone else

And the opposition are any better? A friend of mine once said "don't vote, it only encourages them". I used to think that was a stupid thing to say but I'm starting to think he might have been on to something. For the first time, I'm approaching an election with no idea who to vote for because I have serious issues with all of them.

Anyone would be better.

If you can find an independent candidate with more than two brain cells it's got to be an improvement!

Why would the Kent variant be causing trouble in Europe but not here where cases seem to be dropping rapidly.
Maybe it’s a benefit of Brexit 😜
It’s passed through the UK .Europe was fine and now it’s not

Thinking that the prevalence of one variant or another does not affect case or death numbers.
There is no hard evidence that one variant or another is more infectious or deadly.
