What Topper?

not being smart or anything but thats a strong price for a second hand machine in a sale..
its not old but its not new...

Hi the picture is of a demo we had last year. I haven’t updated the picture as I don’t have one of a new 300 Multicut and I hate stock photos. The machine/price is for a new machine. We have sold two new multicut 300s this year but both been delivered straight to Farm.

Any opinions on Fleming Toppers?
I've had a 6ft fully offset fleming here for a few years now, not been any trouble, although i hardly use it now, i've been topping fields after the sheep have been through with my disc mower this year, far better job i think, cleans the bottom out of the fields a lot better,

I'm running a 9ft Heavy duty fleming topper. Have no problems at all with it, can't understand how there is quite a few negative comments about them. Cuts anything from pasture grass, rushes, docks, dead grass. Keep the blades sharp and you have no problems cutting anything within reason. I've hit many odd fence posts that have been left around fields by horsey folk, hasn't done any damage. Only found a large rock to cause any problems, was my own fault as I knew it was there but thought i had been past it. Just broke a shearbolt and broke a blade into 2. Simple fix and back up and going quick. Only downside of the topper I find is that if it's thick or tall grass it tends to bunch up some cuttings around the front of the skid and bulldoze it along creating a muddy mark in the field. Just have to lift, reverse then cut the lump of cuttings in the middle of the topper.

I'm thinking of changing topper for next season as have had more contracts this year so could do with more output for next year. Thinking of either a 4M Major cyclone, Spearhead multicut 430 or a KV FRO toopper.

Thinking out aloud really...

I'm getting asked more and more for topping work, currently borrowing a topper, It's time to buy one...

I cut general weeds, nettles, thistles, docks, which is easy enough, but also get asked to cut that feggy grass that's come to a head, and sometimes that wiry mountainous grass that's dead thin and dead tough. That takes some cutting, never leaving the finish that I feel is good enough.

It can be driven by anything from 60hp to 100hp.

Options...
9ft behind the tractor topper
8ft offset topper
Second hand flail topper
Second hand disc mower
Anything else?!

What should I be going for...?

:)
Speak to @Dave W he gets good used flail toppers in at sensible money. Just bought one off him myself.

He’s a very good honest chap to do business with as well.

Has anyone had experience of the new Kidd toppers?
Was wondered about a folding wing version similar to the major 18000 flexwing.

Not 100% sure but I think they are the same as the Reco ones not sure on quality but they look pretty good! They have smaller blades than most but more of them

I know the Topper 9 will do the same job as that Spearhead, and I think it will do it for a little more than half that money, unless prices have gone utterly mad in 3yrs since I changed mine for a new one.
I knew they were better built, but never expected such a price premium, I think even if you budget to need a new Chinese angle gearbox at maybe £500, to cover the possibility of ruining one over the life of the machine perhaps, the McConnell still wins.

You mightnt be far wrong, the spearhead is about 7k +v new today or so I was priced at a show last month.
How much is a new McConnell rhino 9 today? @Willie adie

I paid £3300, 4yrs ago. Up from the £2300, 12yrs previously.
I suppose they have all the Tier5 emissions gear on them now, to justify today's anticipated silly price:rolleyes:.
