What trailed foraged harvester to buy

looking at changing from baled to champ silage this year for our suckler cows, we roughly do between 1000 to 1200 bales a year but we are just getting fed up of the time it takes to do it and then the cost of all the plastic. Iv been looking at a jf 900 but just wondered what people thought? We will have about 80 acres first cut and 60 second of fairly well wilted suckler cow silage.

I know but Iv got ground 6miles away 15 minute's each way with average traffic so would loose too much time traveling with wagon
Nothing wrong with a JF 900 the knives are cheep for them but don't take a lot of abuse, a mengele sh40 is a good chopper and will take a bit of stick (stones etc) but knives and sheer bar are expensive with your a acerage they would last a while tho, what sort of power have you got for the chopper?

Iv got either 190 or 200 to put on the front, I just think that jf seems a better idea less wear and the grass doesn't have to go round the barrel like a sh40

200hp would drive a 900 to the point of destruction, I'm not knocking them I'm just saying you have options open to you with all those Geegees.

SH40 as mentioned, Mex6, or JF 1050/1055/1060 would be a better match for your power, no option is 'bad' really..

As suggestions above suggest,sh40,mex6 or bigger jf..
Think you would blow a Jf 900 to bits with the power you got imo..
Jag75 another option for your horse power..

It's time for forage conservation to hibernate for the winter. Start a thread about yard scrapers or something!! Actually a chap demonstrating one at the old Dairy show one year spent a good 5 minutes describing it!! He should have become a politician. 5 mins to describe a yard scraper!! Outstanding!!

Reminds me of the shopping channels, two guys spent an hour talking about a box of frozen meat pies the other night! Amazing!
And I was watching them [emoji30][emoji30]. Sorry to deviate from thread.

Ahh the late night shopping tat.

Cracks me up watching people throw cabbage, carrots, spouts, a pint of water,a banana and five blueberries into a micro diet feeder and try their best to grin and say "OH ITS DELICIOUS!!!"

Of Course it's not - you silly feckers :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

You are correct ,the cost of making that amount of silage in bales must be horrendous. Buy yourself as big a forage harvester as you can afford you have plenty of horsepower for something bigger than aJF 900
