What TV?

Need a new TV for the living room. Current Samsung has sound but no picture.

What make or type of TV is the best deal to buy? and where from?
If it was the other way around, I’d suggest an external FreeView / Sky etc receiver and just pipe the sound out to a bar and picture as normal to the screen.

Shame it’s cheaper now to throw them out (charities won’t take them due to some weird H&S stuff) than get a repair man out at £100+ (just for the call out).

I've no brand loyalty but I go with one of the top brands and stay away from the bush/warfdale/Hitachi.

Funny because warfdale and Hitachi made top notch stereo/hi-fi's back in the day.

Tipped it onto the floor ,stuck stickers onto it then hacked them off with a knife!

Hiding the remote is a favourite pastime,I only want the remote to turn it off!

Samsung TVs can be app controlled - solved the problem of remotes being hidden. Panasonic probably has a similar feature.

An old friend of mine made his living repairing TVs. He told me that LG’s were awful, as he made nothing out of them.;)

On his advice, I bought an LG (from Richer Sounds) about 10 years ago and it’s been faultless. Obviously, being male, I hanker after a bigger/newer/fancier one now, but keep having to tell myself that there’s really nothing wrong with the one we’ve got. Apparently, Mrs NeilO informs me, I start on every Christmas....

About 10 years ago When we were shopping for a living room telly we were told there was only one screen maker for 3 of the main brands so it was more the software that differed, iirc LG, Samsung one other may have been toshiba or hitachi, don’t know if that’s still the case.

You'd think with the technology that we have got now someone would invent a telly with a button on it to make the remote bleep so you can find out which armchair it has hidden in, or perhaps somebody does?
