Just had a quick look and 10 million 1.5 litre Renault K9K Diesel engines had been made by April 2013, so they may well be over 15 million produced and working by now, considering that the Spanish plant alone can make over 900,000 units annually and that there are two other factories making them worldwide.

Relative has a merc b series with the Renault diesel. Very economic on diesel.
Considering that it completely bucks the common rail trend by only having two valves per cylinder and is actually built to be relatively simple and cheap to build, it is an amazingly successful little engine. Current versions are somehow at least 25% more economical than early ones despite having all the emissions paraphernalia added on. It's magic!

Had a Vauxhall Astra 1.7 cdti Van well still got it but laid up in the barn with broken gear box, great little run about, got stuck in a flood with it one year engine filled up with water through the air intake, boys transported it back to the farm & undid the injectors & water spurted out, changed the oil & started straight away, run for a couple of years until the gearbox gave out, would still love to have it back on the road., great little vans.
