What would you do if you won the lottery?

Don't understand people hankering after a big house and flash cars. Don't much understand the desire to remove the motivation to work from all one's friends by paying off their mortgages either.
Surely everything you truly dreamt of or needed could be bought inside a million, what then?
There should be more prizes 500k to 1mill, rather than stupid mega-jackpots, which I cannot believe bring happiness and fulfillment.
Plenty of glum sod millionaires about.

private jet, super yacht, a lot more cars, big house in the south of France and proper farm that can grow 4t plus average wheat crops every year

first 4 achievable but the last one maybe too ambitious !
Jeez we managed 3 ton this year ,can hit 5 in a good year ill sell you twenty acres in exchange for your winning ticket.

3 hard working couples with young kids we are friends with have health problems, 2 couples have a parent with cancer the other couple have a 5 year old whose in and out of hospital all the time and virtually blind

I'd be paying off their mortgages first

Then I'd try and buy the farm I'm allegedly a partner in from my parents and farm away quietly , a 911 may appear after 4 good harvests!

If parents wouldn't sell farm id buy one very close, farm it really well and let everyone know id won lotto and miserable sods wouldn't sell to me

Health truly is your wealth though

I once saw a discussion where people were asking what happened to all those guys who made a decent fortune with computers in the 80s/90s... and the answer for a lot of them turned out to be that they bought a farm/ranch out in the country and spent their days enjoying life working on it.

So I think the answer for a lot of farmers, myself included, would be that they would carry on doing exactly what they are doing now, only with some newer kit and a few more holidays.

Put 50% in a trust for my boy for when he's 30. I wouldn't tell him about it though, to motivate him to make his own way in the world.

I'd buy several thousand ha of good cattle country in the southern hemisphere, probably Uruguay.

I'd properly outfit it with electric fencing and water troughs.
Move there and produce a hell of a lot of quality beef using a couple of horses and a few dogs. Have a man or two to assist.

Spend my down time eating good beef and hunting with dogs.

The above would almost definitely lead to divorce, so I'd have a lot of fun interviewing prospective new wives.

Any farmer lv known who either got money from selling a field for building or wind turbines, don't spend much to start with, probably pay the loans of then, it starts, car, tractor, pick up then ifor Williams trailor, then silage equipment. I think most folk on here would be itching to do the same.l remember we got about 20 grand in 1992 for a pipe line went right threw the farm. Mum got the house decorated, but dad did change a tractor and bought a mcconel topper. Happy dayz. Still get a wee retainer for that pipe, but only 200£.
Would have to agree with that.i made very good money doing my pig shed devolopment and all I’ve spent is £1600 on an electric garage door.would love a new tractor which I could easily afford but can’t get my head round it

How can farming ever be truly profitable or show a sensible return on capital employed, so long as farmers' aspirations are limited to winning the lotto and farming for fun, until the money has all gone.
Government know they do not need to subsidise farming really, because we shall all keep doing it for fun, funded by lotto wins and rich aunts and development money, and then cut each other's throats until the last man is standing.

If a neighbor won an obscene amount of money on the lottery and came and offered £50k an acre i would not sell as i enjoy it too much to give it up.may change if and when im old and geriatric though
