Our 851 was slower than the 781 , with the 851 you could set off in top gear , the other difference was the air cleaner the 781 has an oil bath and the 851 had a dry element filter and a oil cooler

Yes the 851 was a better at pulling but it was slow on the road and when working hard the turbo used to whistle but it never used much diesel it only held 15 gallons and do all day , I wished we never sold it but we traded it in for a fastrac 1135 to use on our combi drill but it was always bother and got rid and went back to a Renault ares 816 and I still have 3 Renault tx range and a 781 orange colour

The hydraulics were really good on them weren't they? Many moons ago a guy I know bought a 4 furrow reversible Lemken from The local IH dealer, he went to collect with his 851. Well as soon as the dealer saw him come into the yard he sneered "Well you better go home and fetch a bigger tractor, I am sure that little sod won't lift a 4 furrow Lemken!" so The farmer replied jokingly "It will pick it up and two of you fat buggers sat on the back furrow!" so they duly obliged, while he yoked it up two fitters climbed onto the back of the plough. Of course the Renault picked it up ( and the men) with the engine just ticking over. "That wiped the smirk off the dealers face! " he said

They don't build tractors like them now , they never had the best brakes , but never caused much problems ,there was quite a few orange colour Renault in our part of Yorkshire, our tractors came from Doncaster area, then a dealer called Lewis of York sold them for years

Paul Field by any Chance? I seem to remember it was a guy called Paul Field from The Donny area that was the first to sell Renault tractors in The UK.. Apparently he used to sell Fendt and Universal tractors (Remember those? Fiats built under licence in Romania, they never caught on ) . He had no success selling the Universals and he and Fendt parted company for some reason so it meant he was without a tractor to sell. He did however know what glorious engines Fendt used in their tractors at the time (MWM) and when he found out that Renault used the same engines, he became interested. The rest as they, is history.
The very last tractor badged as "Renault" came off the production line in 2009 http://www.atr-agri.com/point_atr_f.php
"They never had the best brakes" Oh by the way, even Renault tractor enthusiasts in France admit that, they have a saying, "Rien n'arrête une tracteur Renault, même pas ses freins " = "Nothing stops a Renault tractor, not even the brakes"

Paul fields was the man who we got the renaults from ,did he sell naud plough , a few farmers that had Renault tractors also had a naud plough ,I was told by 1man that only a Renault would lift a naud plough ,at the time they were a heavy plough , one of our neighbors had a new John Deere 3130 in the late 70 and he got a 4 furrow naud reversible and it would only pick it up , the John Deere didn't stay long and a 981 Renault arrived only 2wd and it pulled the naud for years ,now the 981 is on a farm down the road driving a Mobil grain dryer and sounds as sweet as anything

That reminds me of a story that a chap that worked for a farmer told me some years ago. His boss had just bought him a new tractor and they were looking for a four furrow rev. to put behind it. They had a ride out to Kvernelands depot to have a look at some. They really were impressed by one plough in particular , Vari -width , leaf springs on each body etc. The man at Kv. asked them what tractor they were going to pull it with and they said "John Deere 3140" He replied "Oh you can totally forget this plough, Your tractor won't be able to pick it up!"
I know a guy who bought a New Massey 595 and a Lemken 4 furrow plough to hang behind it, both from the same dealer . The plough and the tractor arrived on different dates. However he was not a happy bunny at all when he hitched the plough up for the first time , got back in the cab , tried to raise the linkage only to find that it would not pick it up.
A near neighbour of mine once had a 120hp Massey ( forget which model) and a 110 hp Renault. He used to pull a 4 furrow rev. with his Massey and a 5 furrow rev. with his Renault.

aye they are good pulling tractors with a strong lift we have 106.54 and a 90.34 turbo at home, plough with the 106 and a 4 fr lemken have put the 9034 on a few times to shift it and it doesn't think twice about putting the plough in the air! the farm next door to ours us to have a 106 and they ploughed we a 5 fr kv for years she just lacks the puff if you ever have to go on the road

Dose the 9034 have a mwm engine and I didn't think it had a turbo on it, I have a 106 54 and it lives on a sprayer , I took the pick up hitch off to give it more clearance , best cure for plenty of puff is to get a 155 54 tx not many electronic to go wrong that's why they keep going

That 155-54 just sounds like mine, the 155 has a Bosch injection pump on it as most renaults have a c a v rotors pump apart from the 106 which has a stanadyn pump and different injectors don't know why

My 781 used to handle our Claas Rollant 62 baler easily . My neighbour ran a Rollant 44 behind their MF 690 and when baling straw it used to cough its guts out!

Roy_h do you still have the 781 and was it orange or a gray and orange and do you run Renault now
No tractors at all now Barley Man, we sold up some years ago, but you know what they say, "You can take the man out of the farm but not the farm out of the man" i.e. I still take an interest in farming .It was Grey and Orange ( hence The S at the end of its number ) In a way I wished I had kept it because it was in good condition and apparently only 1107 of this particular model were built. http://www.atr-agri.com/cata_ta.php?atrnum=0181
So it might be a collectors item now! I have some pics ( somewhere) of me baling with her. If I can find them I will scan them and upload them to the forum if you like.
