What's Firewood Worth?

Hello,

I've cut down a load of oak tree branches, logged them, stacked them in my 6t grain trailer, it's over three quarters full now.

It's virtually all oak, and handy size stuff for a log burner. I realise that it will have to dry out before it goes on the fire.

What's it worth? It's of no use to me, so would like to sell it, in a job lot if possible...

:)

I'll take it off your hands, even collect the trailer and bring it back for you empty.:D

Retail £75 for 1m3 mixed. Oak is better mixed as it takes longer to start hence why having some soft in there helps. You wont get a lot for it as it has to be collected and stored. But worth posting on the Items for Sale on FB and see if you get any offers.

I had big plans until I realised that everyone and his dog sells it .job to give it away
We are busy in the winter with it as as I can deliver in the day it uses my time not my husbands work time. I can earn some good money and I offer a stacking service. The biggest hassle it storing and cutting. Honestly, no matter how you ask the boys to chop it its either tiny or massive so getting them to do it as you've asked is the first hurdle.

Then in the evenings you are hand throwing it into the bags to measure/transport. It is very labour intensive and worked out about £20 per bag profit and thats being generous. The odd moaner who phones up and thinks that 1m3 is the same as 1m3 stacked. Its half. I states its loosely measured in bags. If I was going to stack it then deliver it wouldnt be £75 plebs!!! I also have the odd 6m3 stacked jobs which are much more profitable. I have to set a min of 1m3 within 7 miles thereafter min of 2m and additional mileage. Otherwise you end up driving around in the Landi guzzling fuel. Some jokers phone up and start haggling or say I'll go elsewhere - off you go then.

I would say though £75 has to go up this year £80/£85. There are a lot of people doing it for green wood but people dont care its the price they work on always someone selling a load for £40.

Its not easy and once you are paying employees to cut etc you are really squeezing the margins. Using the kids to load the bags is where I make up my time.

I don't sell but I was in the primary supply chain for a number of years & I know what it should sell at & I'd advise anyone with a quality product NOT to under-sell or be fooled into doing so. Particularly good quality firewood.
If you are in any way connected @woodworm you & I may have mutual associations in the 'timber business':p

A picture of what , In my opinion is the 'perfect' piece of oak firewood. Moisture content less than 20% & easily handled.

I would pay you £50.00 +VAT tonne if it's green - so £125 +VAT for your load if you can deliver it to me in 3m length 40cms to 15cms width and stack it in my yard. If it's not that straight I may not be too happy.
