Can you look at the prices after the fact? We have a lot of heifers to sell and I think the agent is low balling me.
trade is flying, how long it will stay up, is any bodies guess. Lot of y/s for sale, not expensive, farmers selling, replacing with milkers ? But if some to sell, do it, if they are the 'right' thing, just sit down, before looking at the cheque, might shock you.
But there are a lot more, talking about selling up, TB holds a lot back, and barren price is high, while there isn't enough cows now, to satisfy demand, some where, the two will meet.
Huge amount of sexed semen used, so plenty heifers coming along, just as plenty selling up, all depends on what the milk price does.

Just don’t get the negativity is all. Folk really need to look at their business models.
Isn't that exactly what's happening? larger units historically staffed with eastern European workers doing 70 hour weeks. The model is broken and it's these herds that are going. Total guess but I suspect they represent a very large proportion of uk milk supply.

I think there are loads of businesses that have grown and rely heavily on employed labour and a lot of farmers dont want to milk cows themselves. Some have created businesses that must be a complete and utter ballache with hassle 24/7. I enjoy milking cows and doing what i do but there will become a point in the next 10 years if my kids arent interested that i will have to make a decision on milking cows too.

what type of farm was it that British Airways have bought in Crymych for tree planting?
Ex dairy farm. One of a few that are reputed to be fetching £15k an acre, no chance anyone will complete and farm it at this price.
Not sure it’s just BA , after talking to the fencer here today. Apparently a company buy a farm, subdivide it into five acre plots( where the fencer is involved) and then the plots are sold for carbon offset tree planting.

That’s what I meant sorry 10 days in 14. Tried to get everyone onboard with having fri/sat off one week and sun/mon the next
but older staff weren’t keen.

He hasn’t got it in him I don’t think. His main man just left mid thirties been with him for 20 years. I told him to make him a partner in the business so he could relax and spend more time with his other interests.
So you do a 10 day fortnight now, but aim to go to an 8 day fortnight?

What happens when Storm Arwen comes along and blows all these trees down?

that nonsense needs putting a stop to
Well, both nonsenses...planting trees to save carbon, and splitting commercial scale blocks of land into stupid parcels*

*like that toerag who buys commercial woodland and splits it into 'amenity' parcels....destroying any chance of it being managed again at any commercial scale.

It's all very good, off setting carbon, and getting paid to do it, except for one little problem, no one has a recognised, or official, way of measurement, or set of rules for cropping.
There will be, no doubt about that, but, what happens if your 'agreement' does not actually fit's around those 'official' measurements We all know there are plenty of sharks out, that don't give a toss about us, and would cheat, con, drop in the shite, without any hesitation. On the other hand, it could be a nice little earner for farmers, especially when the focus leaves trees, and moves towards grass, which sequestrates possibly more carbon than tree's.
All summed up, as proceed with extreme caution, if thinking along these lines !
