Whats going to come of my winter barley?

Evening,

I sowed some winter barley 20 days ago.

Very light, sandy loam. In good condition when I sowed it, a but damp perhaps, but ok...

So far, nothing has emerged, nothing at all, not a sausage.

Bearing in mind the wet weather, and now some frosts, when will i see some emergence, if at all...?!

I wouldn't worry one bit. I've wb down 3 weeks tomorrow and apart from the odd little one it's not emerged. A check in the soil however has it germinating nicely and I expect another week will have a green tinge appearing. Everything is very slow emerging with the rain at first and now the cold. Crows are my biggest problem right now.

Sure it will be fine.drilled mine 3 weeks ago and 5/8 mm shoots appearing on Monday morning.did not walk far onto it as it was just about impossible in the mud.ill be a lot happier to see it ringe across the field.

It will be ok. Gleam wheat sown here 29/10, 3 weeks ago, is only just starting to emerge. Soil temperatures are half what they were 3 weeks ago so you've got to expect growth to have slowed down.

Have you scratched the surface to see how far down the shoots are?

They like a line of the good stuff. Apparently we're all gone mad in the countryside doing lines ;).
I was looking at some of the Cassia and Valarie this morning and it's just starting to come through now and the black plague are pulling them up by the shoots. The really maddening bit is they are leaving a lot of the grains and shoots on top of the land and pulling up more.

by the soil you describe it would be easy to put it in a bit deep.....how did you prepare soil and what sorta drill

I’m suprised seed ain’t rotting.walked some wheat and barley today that’s just poking through but difficult to walk in all the mud.dull short days and waterlogged soil don’t help.at least ive escaped the crows,so far
