whats the longest you can leave a new slab before cutting and filling joints?

Just had a 6 inch reinforced slab laid with a polished surface in a 6400ft shed

its been 11 days now since it was laid and they have not been back yet to cut despite two promises.

how angry can I start to get? i always thought it should be done 2-3 days after pouring.

cant see any cracks yet but i am worried that when they do it will all move with the tension release and possibly crack elsewhere

we cut it with in 24 hours if its not flicking any aggregate out especially this time of year , its been left far to long have you paid them if not they need educating ,has it been done with a laser screed

Thanks.

No sign of damage yet.

Yes with a laser screed, I’d call it an ag spec finish…

Not paid yet and told him so. Issue is if he cuts it tomoz and invoices me soon after at what point will I know if any damage has been done?

Depends really if you want them to do anything else? I would definitely raise your concers with them just to see what the response is and go from there

As above, should be next day. At a push 2-3 days might just about be OK.

The cuts are there to "encourage" the concrete to break/crack tidily at those points rather than cracking randomly when it contracts.

does the name start with Mac , i would be tempted to get it cut a little deeper than the norm after this time and make sure it’s cut to all the columns, don’t let anyone talk you into 12 m distance is ok , we did two runs down a shed on a saturday and filled middle on monday , cut the saturday ones on monday morning and 2 out the 8 went straight away

best done as soon as you can walk on it just as they are finishing the polishing
The longer it is left it becomes less important as it will crack were ever it wants.
Did it have membrane put under the concrete as that may help it from drying out to quick
Hold on to your money as you will not know what it will be like next year when it has dried out.

I would say it will have started cracking anywhere it wants by now. If it’s going to crack it usually does it quite soon. As said the best is to cut it ‘green’ after polishing with a soft cut saw.

Did they isolate the posts or concrete right into the web of the steels? If it is poured right into the post web then I would look around all the steel corner edges as that is where it will crack first - the pull will be massive between posts.
