Recently got some new hens delivered, young ones, not quite ready to lay yet. One of the hens toes (claws?) is very crooked, what is this? Do I need to be worried? It seems to manage around fine.
We have the same problem with the turkeys. The breeder company chap said about slight incorrect temp in the incubator causing it.I understand it is either genetic, or it is environmental, in the latter it is supposedly a result of cold floors in the brooder & or heat and humidity when incubating.
Nothing can be done, if they are on a hard surface they will slough the skin, so watch for infection & bumble foot, should be ok on grass.
Dont breed from her.
