Wheat Black heads in Graham

Hi

Could anyone shed some light on what May have caused this problem please? Graham winter wheat following a year grass break from cereals and have a lot of these black heads. The grains inside these ears are tiny and pinched. Seed was new and havnt had a problem in other blocks where the same batch of seed was used. Robust fungicide including T3 as in south west.

to the conclusion it’s sooty mould

I too think it is sooty mould, but something else, I have always suspected something attacking roots rather than aphids, makes these ears more susceptible.

We had it in Graham too and none in other varieties. It didn’t seem to knock the yield though.I thought it may have been some kind of mould.
