DDG's might be short due to Vivergo announcing its early close down, any that will have been sold from there from Dec on wards will now have to be taken from other sources. I don't know that all for a fact as don't get involved in that side of things, just a guess based on what we are seeing from this side.

One of KW' big suppliers of brewers grains used to be the Distilley at Girvan in Scotland , all the grain by product goes to an AD plant now to generate go the distillery.
As with Maize now lots being lost to AD plants creating shortages and price increases for feed .

Is it okay to feed wheat distillers at a couple of kilos per head to 300kg weanling calves over the winter on its own along with adlib silage or outdoors to young stock at grass. I assume there is no problem

primarily a protein feed , needs an energy feed really to compliment it , like barley etc , you can feed it but wasteful and excess protein make kidneys work harder , pee'd out on the floor ,

Heard last week there will soon be more draff coming from the north east, diageo I think distillerys. Their plant that turns it into pellets is getting to the end of it's life and isn't being replaced.
Should help price and supply a bit.

Good news, vitagoid from Girvan was a great feed for us for over 20 years and sorely missed.

VIVERGO FUELS SHUTDOWN IN RESPONSE TO LEGISLATIVE UNCERTAINTY

“We reluctantly welcomed the Government’s Renewable Transport Fuel obligation proposals in September, but have remained extremely concerned that there is no roll-out framework for E10 in the UK, the absence of which could have serious consequences for the long-term future of the UK bioethanol industry.

Over the past six weeks we have seen bioethanol prices fall significantly impacting Vivergo profit margins further. Whilst there have been some supply increases this year, the bioethanol market in the UK remains constrained by the Government’s inaction. As a result of these market conditions and legislative uncertainty, we have taken the decision to take our production facility offline for the foreseeable future. While the plant is offline, we are taking the opportunity to bring forward and extend our annual plant maintenance work in order to maintain employment levels. We will closely monitor the market ahead of any plant re-starting.

In the meantime, we will continue to work with all stakeholders and the Government to support the legislative process and the future roll-out of E10; the simplest, most readily available environmentally friendly option for consumers to help reduce the impact of road transport on our environment and providing stability and confidence in the future of the UK bioethanol industry and the jobs it supports.”

  • Vivergo Fuels plant in East Yorkshire is the UK’s largest, and Europe’s second largest producer of bioethanol, a low-carbon renewable transport fuel which is blended with petrol. The £350 million plant can produce up to 420 million litres of bioethanol and the bioethanol is made from 1.1 million tonnes of feed wheat, sourced from nearly 900 farms across the East Yorkshire region. It is also the country’s largest single production site for animal feed, delivering 500,000 tonnes of high protein feed to over 800 farms across the UK. Employing more than 150 skilled people at the production site in Hull and head office in Hessle; as well as supporting over 3,000 jobs directly and indirectly
  • Vivergo Fuels is one of the Government’s Northern Powerhouse Partners

Went with maize distillers in the end , nice product ,£204 tonne , will need lime flour (highish phos) but very palatable ,added a bit of soya and barley ,(2/1/8 ) should be 19% and a few chopped potatoes , ewes milking well.
