Proper wet now. The top inches are just sodden and it's raining quicker than its soaking through. This is the case on all similar soils.

That pretty accurately describes our whole farm right now. The drains are running full bore and I see there are several places here we have a blocked drain and the water has broken through to the surface. Its all a bit depressing really. Roll on Christmas day for Beef Wellington and a glass or two of St Emilion!

Tbh I have no intention or need to go outside for the next ten days, so wont upset myself with what it looks like. Needless to say I cleared a 12" culvert pipe which was 11.5" covered and which appears to be where a field and much of my shed roof water comes out of. Could run a hydro power station from it now. Would have preferred it the last 200 sheep had gone tbh.

Pulled up some beet tops, which hopefully I can drill this afternoon.

The worst wheeling were pulled up over Christmas to break the boredom.
A bit of sun this morning has let it haze out quite nicely considering the time of year.

Yes it does drought but the more dry years I endure like last year the more I realise how resilient my farm is and that I'm no better or worse than many many others in similar seasons.

It's not pure course sand it's quite loamy and will grow good crops.

I think the affects of drought can be mitigated some what by drilling early(I'm treating this as a spring crop) I have mates on good land who suffer just as much as me but they can't drill until mid march at the very earliest and there crops are barely up before the dry sets in.
