Wheat harvest 2018

You're lucky you can get going. Seems to rain every other day. Hardly turned a wheel in weeks.

I don't think we've actually managed a proper full day yet, either a wet start and get going late afternoon or get a decent start and rained off at night. Baler was falling behind but had a couple of really windy days and it got a chunk baled that was lying and yesterday was chasing the combine.

Saying I've got 5t/a won't make the bank balance any better when they're as low as they are, and why not be honest, at least it will make some people feel better about there crops ;)

............and just in case anyones thinking I'm a rubbish farmer ( probably am ) OSR averaged 1.9t/a over the weighbridge off 66 acre
No mate, we all deserve some success. Mind you all my neighbours have baled ever stem of straw to sell & have romped over harvest quick...lack of grain trailers flying about.
Me, I don't have a lack of storage this year and the combine is remarkably good on diesel.

:):)

My grain dozer has been up for sale ever since we first started harvest here in June.

Absolutely no local interest.

Thought that the AHDB would certainly be in the market last week, but we have had absolutely no response to my email, so far.

Ha! We only farm on a tiny scale compared to you, if I can’t get 100 acres of wheat and 50 of barley right, then I may as well let Mr Big Farmer up the road have it.

there isn't 100ac of my farm that could do those numbers, nice easy soil but its doesn't like a dry time

My great grandfather did well when he bought this place 100 years ago. Mostly black Fen with clay underneath. Soil works nicely on top for germination then the roots can get down to the moisture retaining clay in years like this.

We have just took on a new estate this autumn with some much better soils than we currently farm at home or on other contact farms - has averaged close to 4t of wheat this year and just under 2t of OSR so high hopes for the future at least !!

A wise old farmer once told me if you can farm 1000ac like you can farm 100 you're a bloody good farmer ! lot of truth in that I reckon !
