Wheat in AB15

As above, got a lot of wheat volunteers in the first spring of AB15, agronomist is convinced regular topping won’t sort them, and thus not going to make much of a break crop. I’m thinking/hoping they won’t survive through to next year. Anyone experienced anything similar in the past ?

Into year 4 of mid tier Ab15 here, ie now got the second crop planted Sept 21 coming into its first spring.
My experience is top towards end of May as any black grass flowers and most of that and the wheat/barley volunteers will not re-grow. Wheat topped then and no fertiliser will not come to much, if its the grass clover mixture you've got, that should then takeover. I only topped it once, but have a bigger topper this year so might try twice if I think it's necessary.

What kind of agronomist is he? Wheat and barley always topped out of grass leys. Sorry but harsh but surely that’s basic stuff? If not we could harvest wheat and it would come back next year!!!
