Wheat into orbit

Does the high protein red wheat we import need high amounts of N like UK wheat needs?
Yes it does. probably more than uk wheats on a ton for ton basis. Some varieties are more efficient than others but our grow season is short so it needs pushing to achieve its yield and protein. Average in this area would be 120 units plus residual N to get you 50 -55 bushels of 14% wheat. 36.74 bushels to a ton. Some dryer areas will use less but yield less too. Protein is made from late season N and sunshine and a dry harvest.

Sade that we have to stupe to this I would think there is plenty of gas etc . A managed changed to greener energy should be a government organised way not just hope it all workes out . USA was importing oil but now self sufficient. All pandering to silly people not managing the situation to change over systems.

Another year of a fert situation like this and wheat will definally in orbit!
whys it not in orbit already? surely the markets must start pricing in that less fert will be applied in the coming year and a shortage is looming?

Smart enough to produce their own fertilizer though.
They are the 3rd biggest country in the world, the biggest population and one of the biggest economies. They would have to be truly daft not to… yet they close factories down at the stroke of a pen when they decide to move the environmental goalposts. Please convince me as to how they are really smart.

It’s a capitalist world they could buy and sell the UK many times over. How else are these judgements made these days?

They own a lot of the Treasury bonds written for QE, therefore they do own a stake in us already. They still make irrational decisions but that’s politics for you.

Yes we should have built an alternative such as nuclear before switching the gas off.

It was the same last year too. It was obvious after the drought in April/May/June that yields would be drastically down, but the trade managed to pretend otherwise and keep a lid on it for a surprisingly long time........

I don't think it has been realised what is happening.

If the Southern hemisphere doesn't produce a good "Normal" crop with whatever fertiliser is to hand, then prices really need to rise quite a bit.

But I don't see anyone realising that food is more important than toys, holidays, new cars etc. If energy is required to make fertiliser then somehow, somewhere, the price of food has to rise to such an extent that the purchasing power of farmers overwhelms all these other industries.

A long way to go before that happens.
