Wheat variety choices next year?

What wheat varieties are you thinking about planting this- next year? Feed or milling?

Early days I know!!

Just wandering as a seed grower what may happen? - crystal ball time!!

Currently growing some zyatt which looks like it could be popular this time? -& it looks really good so far btw!!

Cheers dh

Bennington as first wheat. Had 1st wheat last yr weighted onto lorry 9.9t/ha. Got it as 2nd wheat this year doesn't look so clever but looks good as 1st again. Sky fall for 2nd and 3rd wheat

Have been committed to Diego for many years. However this season it's not doin as well. Numerous reports of yellow rust in it and we have suffered from significant mildew problems. Graham in farm looking much better. I'm thinking about trying some Costello for next year. Be interested in any comments people have on this from the wet west side of the country.

I have some Costello- doesn't look that great.
I want to plant more kielder- I know most people hate it but it does really well here, and again is looking my best wheat.
I don't think there will be any seed around though

Costello here in first wheat slot after osr looks very well and been very clean all season, pic taken 2/5/17

That's interesting, all established - proven varieties so far?

Skyfall & Dickens grown here aswell & yes the dickens looked scruffy here last year but it yielded & was easy to cut. Got evolution aswell which looks great again so far.

For some reason I've never got on with soft wheats so stick with hards now, so not tried Costello.

Like wellington farmer kielder was a long time favourite here but I couldn't get any seed last year so went for Santiago instead- it looks awful & wish I hadn't bothered !!

I'm leaning towards more resistant varieties like skyfall/ evolution now, to trim the fung spend.

Is anyone looking at zyatt or Kerrin?

Will probably stick with the same varieties, namely,
Costello
Graham
Skyfall
Trinity.
Only the proportions will change, less Skyfall, as we are reducing the acreage of osr and more Costello.

Costello also looking well at the moment, so is Graham and very pleased with Anaplolis after maize. I think Diego has had its day, with a breakdown on the cards.
Siskin after potatoes hasn't tillered enough, just grew upwards, so looks a bit on the thin side.

Are you a hutchinsons customer? You should be happy with the Annapolis as long as you have used enough pgr

Diego area for us will reduce, Costello will be the main variety so long as it performs at harvest, have got some reflection this year again after it yielded so well last yr it's stayed clean so far, think we better not use it again pushing our luck with it regards rust. Thinking of zyatt this year to try.
