Wheatfeed through the parlour?

Our cows are currently getting a standard 18% dairy nut through the parlour and a blend (barley, rapemeal, distillers, minerals) fed up the trough once a day at about 4kgs.

We are considering dropping the dairy nut (£210) and just feeding wheatfeed (£145) in the parlour at about 2kgs twice a day. Cows are mostly early lactation crossbreds and danish reds yielding 30kgs. What are people's thoughts?

Thanks

how many kilos of cake av in the parlour ? dosent sound like your doing a bad job to me, depends if your going to increase the blend at the trough

Still just 2kgs, nut ingredients include wheatfeed, palm kernel, rapemeal etc. Not that great a stuff so just thought about feeding top quality blend and then using wheatfeed in parlour.

Do you ever feed any of your own cereals?
Yes, but didn't have enough of our own barley to get us through, cheaper to buy cracker feed than buy in barley or roll our own malting barley. Didn't make much grass silage so mostly feeding maize and whole crop so fairly starch loaded outside. Need to get some grazed grass in......

Is the wheatfeed palatable?
