When’s a deal done?

I have, also all grain leaves here un paid for up front, (sometimes owed the price of a decent tractor) as does cattle and fat lambs, just saying.
we were lucky.
Sold quite a few cows earlier in the year via Beeston. Got paid.
Few weeks later, just sent a couple. Didnt get paid!

Id expect to pay a deposit on a special order. If its a large amount of money, and there is a risk of the supplier going bankrupt, the deposit, or even the full amount can be lodged with a bank. They keep it until the product is delivered, and return it if not.

Did beeston go under? See a lorry with that name floating about here quite a lot, must have been sold

Think you got the right man. Nod nod wink wink ! I only had two deals with him. Both nightmares. I should have known better after the first time. Must have cost his employers a lot of business.
If it’s who I think it is he quoted a mate on a tractor but they didn’t really want to deal with him as they’d heard his reputation. They bought the blue version instead, he came round and asked them how much difference in price, 4K they replied. There’s no way a blue one could be 4K less he said, it wasn’t, it was 4K more.

If its who I think it is... he was locally known as Billy Liar!!!!.....(I used to live in Minsterley many moons ago and the individual didn't live too far away

Credibility is like virginity !!

A deal is a deal when a contract is agreed by both parties. " I will you sell this product for x pounds " - " thank you, then I will agree the price and order it from you now " deal done, contract agreed, paperwork signed or not !!

The law is now on both parties side for breach of contract, if one side breaks the agreement, the other has the right to sue for any costs incurred due to loss of business or additional costs incurred due to the breach.

But, if no signed contract (order) exists, and one party decides to lie and deny any agreement was made, it is one word against the other, in this case it is unlikely that any lawyer would advise progressing action.

This has happened so many times, and for the straight buyers and sellers, damages your faith in others.

I feel sorry for the young sales guy, this is the last thing he needed, however it is also a great lesson for the future.

In this case it looks like someone took advantage when they needed a tractor.

I personally don't like machinery shopping -
I detest haggling - best price 1st time kind of person.
looked at a new tedder mid april 2019 - I told the rep I don't haggle, best price - in a week he knocked £1800 off his original price - went with it, local firm - still waiting for my warranty service as booked in November :S .

I also paid the full amount as requested before delivery - never missed an invoice and I have had various bits off the company over the years.

when I queried the rep he said credit was a gesture of good will, not an expected bonus - unfortunately all the team had changed in April - so no customer knowledge.

on another note, I bought some paint for a tractor I've been doing up, they didn't have any on the shelf as normal, so ordered it in - the invoice came and i'd been charged quite considerably for postage - invoice paid and account closed.

people deal with people, not with firms, unfortunately its different times we live in now - very cut throat.

I dont think best price first cuts it with big ticket purchases, regrettably, because everyone else they deal with thinks they are a hardarse businessman who takes no prisoners, and so they go along with the ritual dance and keep the trump card hidden.
I dont think dealerships really, really try until it gets to the last croak and they can see a deal slipping away, manufacturers help to close rebates, etc.
Im happy to be contradicted, but I think you have to play along if you want the very best deal.

A tff dealer once told me to make an offer on something 'what's it worth to you' were his words. So I made an offer and he got offended :ROFLMAO:
turns out he didn't actually know what it was worth so invited offers.
some folk are just hard work

'Warranty service' on a tedder? What's that all about? Do you expect a dealer service for a tedder at no cost? That's a new one on me.
Carriage on the paint? Well if the paint was ordered for you and the dealer was charged carriage, who would you expect to pay it? It's your paint not the dealer's, surely. It's not as if it was a big stock order, which you would expect to reach the dealer carriage paid if over a certain invoice amount. Obviously it wasn't supplied to them by Amazon Prime.

Lely tedders, I know came with 2yr warranty, to keep it current there had to be a winter service done, check all bolts, gearboxes, etc. This service was usually negotiated in the purchase price.

Who exactly did you think would pay for the carriage? Dealers have to pay it, so it gets past on to the customers. You can't honestly think a £15 tin or two of paint they can absorb the £8-10 in carriage that would cost to ship do you? I suppose they could have put the price of each tin up? or you could havestated your in no rush and they would have added it to a stock order and be ready in a couple of weeks or so.... people amaze me they really do.

A year or so ago Toyota started selling vehicles over here on a no haggle, the price is the price basis. Perhaps saves a lot of buggering about?
Don't know if they still do it, never been rich enough to buy one.
@hintonroadhero I seem to remember you're in the trade?

You're absolutely right......Toyota sell at a TDP...Toyota Driveaway Price.....no haggling..you can actually order your car over the internet if preferred.... although fleet buyers will get some extra discount... the TDP price includes all the pre-delivery costs including registration, a set of floor mats and a full tank of fuel.. the rest of the industry said they would lose sales, but with 2019 numbers just released they came out on top with 20% market share, followed by Ford at 10%, Mitsubishi at 8% and Holden also at 8%. Incidentally, they also changed the way the dealers work. Dealers now don't hold stock...only demonstrators..stock held by Toyota at three strategic locations...units for test or purchased delivered within 48 hours

A mate told me there were several different discount levels available, depending on what you qualified for?
Would every dealer value a trade in at the same price?

General public will get TDP....if you buy 5 Hilux you will get extra discount...if you buy 20 Hilux you will extra extra discount.....but every manufacturer offers fleet discounts. .The trade-in is nothing to do with Toyota NZ.. that's the dealers decision what to pay for it, so undoubtedly some will pay more or less
