The answer ....Hereford hospital ....
The grandson was admitted into the hospital on Boxing Day . He is 12 mths old . He had breathing problems due to a chest infection etc etc . 2 days later his father was told " your son has tested for Covid so we are moving you into a side Ward"
That meant that neither father nor son was allowed out of the room for anything and so there they were stuck in a tiny room with a bed and a cot for little one and no space at all .
Meanwhile toddler is treated for the original problem which was a chest infection .
After a few days like this Dr comes into room ( yesterday) and discharges toddler saying his chest infection had cleared up and he was fit enough to go home ....."what about the Covid problem"? son asks ....... " Oh that's not a problem sir the test was wrong and he hasn't had Covid " says the Dr ........
I would love to have been a fly on the wall when my lad replied !!!!
All that time couped up for nothing .

I just wonder how often this is happening ?

You have to remember that no test is perfect particularly antigen tests and even the supposed gold standard PCR is can be over sensitive. It could have been the case that the wee lad had already been infected a week or two earlier without showing symptoms as youngsters often do. But it allowed another bacterial or viral infection to take hold, however a subsequent PCR test could still show a +'ve to covid.

If you remember back at the start of all this when they were trying to get old folk off cruise ships who had recovered form covid. They needed two -'ve tests on consecutive days, it proved very difficult as one day they would test -'ve but some could then test +'ve the following day and so on.

Surely the point is, when did they know the test result was wrong? From the OP it doesn't look like they were rushing to tell the chap.
Yes ..... they were aware about the test but failed to pass the info on. The Dr spoke as though the info had already been given !
Second point is ......how often is this happening ? ...is my grandson a statistic or not ....i.e. When they give the 'positive' numbers out every day do they then have to revise them to give the true picture ......small points I know but very interesting .

Suppose it's a consequence of humans being involved, but I guess the treatment wouldn't have varied that much, just the stress of adults being locked down longer than necessary which must have been unpleasant.

Sounds to me more like an administrative error rather than an incorrect test result?

Doctors and nurses change from shift to shift and might not know a patient at all and then might never see them again if they don't work several days on the trot in the same ward or department?

Can only go on what is in a patient's notes. Unless a patient asked me specifically, I wouldn't bother to mention what was in their notes as would presume it had already been passed along? No sense in repeating bad news if that makes sense?
