Just wondered how the drought situation was in different parts of the country...or not as the case may be. Thought this year was gonna be different but in danger of early winter again and cows inside early here in cumbria.Havnt the crop for an early one this time but at least we have grass now which i am thankful for, i realise many will still have nothing....its hard to keep everyone happy with the good old british weather!

I think the main difference this year is the ground is able to handle a bit of wet weather where as last year it never really got beyond tender here all season, well until around now when the cows went in and didn't get out again. We had a pretty wet night last night but after a Cpl of hrs sun this morning the gate ways etc are dried up again. If it settles again now it will still end up a decent year but having said that I still have 60 acres of silage to get which was ready 2 weeks ago.

we have had a poor august, hvnt really had sun so it isnt really drying up now,we are just at that borderline stage where land is just about dry enough but you just dont want it to get into that pattern of rain every day,we still have 30+ acres to get which isnt past ready yet but might end up having to try and snatch it before long.

Yes we have had a poor august too but i'm taking hope from the fact that we ploughed 15 acres of heavy land on Friday and when its turned over its bone dry so its really still just surface deep at the minute. If it does turn out an early winter here it could spell the end for our suckler cows, i'm not going through the same torture I put up with last winter.

think the bad ones just stick in the mind and you think `here we go again`.....but lets hope not!
