When is our pig price going to go up?

The rest of Europe has had a 30 p per kg increase over the last 3 weeks, ours has gone up 0.5 p in that time to just below breakeven.

This is getting very dull.

I was thinking the same about this. Pig job has been poor for some time now and I read an article a few days ago saying that there has been over 1 million pigs culled in China due to blue ear and they have secured thousands of tonnes of pork from America to make up some of the shortfall. They were describing the protein shortage over there as fairly serious so you would of thought pork and other red meat would see significant increases sooner

Agree. Rarely see the point of a far off holiday in May/Jun/July when its the nicest 3 months of the year.

According to the article, direct culls and their impact on the breeding herd will mean 130 MILLION fewer pigs in China by the end of 2019, with the Chinese pork price predicted to rise by another 40% in the nest 6 months...

In essence there is little to no completion from the slaughter houses and if they do raise the price they will only buy the pigs that are already on the ground and contracted to them anyway. So why do it. The government campaign to close slaughter smaller houses has worked for the consumer but not the farmer. Alternatively, it could possibly be a cartel!
