As above. We have a field sprayed off a good three weeks now. We have had a little rain. But not enough to encourage me to drill it yet. How long can I wait ?
Why do you need rain to drill.
Get it in the ground. Roll well. Then wait. It will rain. It will grow.

The seed is just as safe in the soil as it is in the bag but as others have said wait and get it wrong and it might be too wet.

First week in October seems to be fine here after rape, rye and clover mix not had a problem with germination yet, but probably not recommended, farm is nearly all south facing but up to 900ft

The fear is a little bit of moisture to create germination followed by a thirsty death.
I don't think you will get a thirsty death. The day length is much shorter and the night dews are likely enough to prevent that. Rain will be coming.
My new lawn was pure dust, had a heavy shower and sowed as soon as dry enough to travel (it is a big lawn) dutch harrowed the seed in and sowed again and rolled it to buggery.
Looks good now after scarcely any rain once the soil dried from that earlier heavy shower.

a retired scat's rep close to you, reckoned more grass seed was sold for december, than any other month, quantifying that, by saying it went to landscaping road work projects, but it still grew well.
Cut off for me, is mid oct, for ryegrasses, but mid sept for anything else. Weather is king.

Get on with it, the rain will arrive and you won’t be able to go it.
We’ve got away with it in mid October before. But late September is the latest I would officially go here in sunny Cornwall
