the uk but with the trade tariff at 40% so i am told

So either they will buy our lamb with a 40% tariff because NZ have let them down with their supply and are desperate to get it, or we will do a trade deal with them and supply them without a tariff?
The point I'm trying to make is that there is only so much stuff made/ grown in the world, which at the moment has markets presumably. A foreign supplier (NZ in this lamb example) may decide to put more lamb (or some other product) into the EU market dislodging UK product, but surely that means they have to pull out of an existing market in order to supply the EU. Can the UK then not start supplying these markets? Sorry if I'm being a bit simplistic- happy to be enlightened.

How long did Churchill last once war was over,
Agreed, he was the right man for the period of the war, but thereafter the world moved on and his form of diplomacy was not in tune with where the country was then. my point was, referenda are not simple unless the facts are laid bare for the electorate too judge. The next 6 months will be interesting indeed. My own view is that the EU are worried that UK will do rather well outside the club and others will want to go the same way.

Personally I don’t like referendums. Was it Churchill that said don’t let the people decide on important issues?

Well, that has certainly been proved correct in 2016. A case of it's far to difficult for the politicians to work out so let the public have a go. Just for good measure let each of them make up their own agenda as to what they think they are voting on.:banghead:

Leavers didn’t have to make up their own agenda. Remainers told them

Is easy enough.
We all voted to leave.
Just as all the remainians voted not to leave.
