This is what the French do when , rewilding goes wrong , this is after introduction of wolves to Forestry near some of my friends farms , they have been killing sheep daily , Cant see us getting away with doing this , perhaps something like this at the bottom of cwises drive.

See they were talking about doing the same in the kielder forest a while back

Lynx... they were applying for a release licence in England to let them go in Kielder. It isn't far from the border, and easily within straying distance. There was to be no application made to Scotgov. If found in Scotland they'd fall under the dangerous animals act and we would be allowed to shoot them

Now they're trying to get permission to release them up at Loch Lomond... been refused once already but trying again.

I've seen video footage of the destruction these Apex predators do to livestock in Germany... any government would be f**king mad to allow it on this little island

I’ve got a few shearing friends in Germany, some of the posts they have on Facebook of wolf attacks on sheep, cattle and horses are horrific. They also have huge hunting dogs that they use for the wolves, that was an interesting video!

Trouble is the french are more pastoral grazing and they are taking a lot of ewes and lambs , uks extensive type grazing is just asking for trouble , will a lynx take young lambs ?

The lynx trust says they won’t take sheep, adults or lambs but I don’t believe them. The Norwegians thst I’ve spoken to about lynx introduction think it’s mad.

lol yea i know about the dogs , mate went to portugal and rented a small villa next to a sheep farm with lg dogs , couldnt get near the door when the sheep were near , frightened the life out of him , they had to move the flock lol , They live with sheep all year round , they do a damn good job , never be allowed here , with footpaths and the like

The 'argument' is Lynx would be a natural way to manage Roe deer numbers in the forests...

But we all know a ewe or lamb is a much easier source of food than an agile deer.

They also argue saying Lynx only takes 0.6 sheep every year, each... but I've yet to see how they can say that. You can't kill 0.6 of a ewe, and they don't live in a community. So it would end up being 1 ewe per Lynx. They claim the Loch Lomond site will carry at least 100 Lynx

@Nithsdale Farmer have you been at any of the lynx trust information meetings?
I was at the one in Blair Athol last spring. The main guy, Paul, is a very intelligent guy and has obviously spent many years studying them. He was not against lethal control if the lynx started killing livestock or the population increased beyond their expectation. His wife however, was a different person to deal with and had no real knowledge, just a script to follow and couldn’t counter a debate away from that script.

Now there is an emergency" says Guillaume Cognard, breeder of Charolais sheep in Simonots, in the town of Gourdon, not far from Mont-Saint-Vincent.

In the farmyard, a tractor is ready to go with in the back, in the trailer, the corpses of the eleven sheep killed during the night from Saturday to Sunday. This same breeder had already had a visit from the wolf at the end of July. The predator had already killed three sheep.

The tractor, the trailer with the corpses and direction the sub-prefecture of Charolles where with other breeders, he goes around 7 p.m., unloading the dead sheep in front of the gate of the sub-prefecture. "We are going to align them because now we can no longer wait for the authorities to make the wrong decision."

And the right decision for Guillaume Cognard is "the sampling shot", that is to say, organize a hunt, track down the wolf "and kill it" he specifies.

Cwis gets loads of dead things nailed to his gate. I don’t think he’s the most popular bloke among New Forest commoners.

And the moon is made of cheese...

Seem to recall a Lynx being thought responsible for sheep killing in mid Wales a year or 3 back?

seems to suggest they are not just big pussycats!
