Just done 502 miles on 13 Gallons lot of driving in London as well
That’s almost exactly what I get long distance, travelling a lot of motorway at 80mph on my Volvo. 39mpg.
Yesterday did just under 100 miles at a more leisurely pace and got over 41mpg.
It’s really surprising how economical today’s relatively big and heavy cars are. Only ever got 50mpg from a 54hp Astra diesel which had no power steering or air-con. 30mpg from a petrol Golf GTi which I thought great at the time because it actually beat the wheezy old Mk1 Fiesta 1300S.
Now we have all singing and dancing, ultra safe and clean cars that are three times the size and weight of those old cars and far more powerful and fast, yet are 30 to 50% more economical on fuel.

That is incredible from such a heavy vehicle.

As a destitute tight arse,i have never had a problem being tempted by new and shiny. I spend 6-7 k every 5-6 years.the last hilux i had cost me about £500-600 a year in depreciation. The wife"s last ML probably about £1000 a year,I was always taught as a boy to be careful what you swap your money for ,because someone else ends up with it ,you don"t.

Its not bad. It even has the Polestar optimisation upgrade which, if truth be told, is a waste of money, but there you go. Can't win them all. Only consolation is that I'm soon to get a free Polestar upgrade which gives a 20 second power boost when needed, to temporarily up the power to around 260hp and over 500Nm torque. This will make it more worth the several hundred I paid for it.

A little story about the Polestar.
The salesman who 'sold' it to me is currently, as I type, in Sweden having the prize for selling the most Polestar upgrades in the UK. However, they had a 14 trial promotion of the upgrade where they would remove it at no charge if I wasn't satisfied. Up until the very last day I had decided not to bother as it was not, in my view, worth some £600 [on promotion] or thereabouts. Then on that last day Rolls Royce launched the Cullinan and it was all over all the news and internet. What caught my eye was that they had an optional headlining that they would build with any star constellation of the buyers choice, starting at £30,000 EXTRA and upwards. This was the straw that broke my back and I thought "f**k it! Why the hell am I cogitating about whether £600 is 'worth it' or not when people must be willing to spend what my whole car cost on bloody stars in the headlining?" So I kept it and have a little blue badge on its arse, worth all of £3, to show for it.
