They are being fed scraps and some rolled barley and wheat trying not to over do them as I don't want them getting too fat they will be for pork my mate is back from the navy in 3 weeks time he is a chef and we are going to cut them up together (not killing them ourselves) he won't be back for 3 months till next time but will that be too late

I'm certainly no expert on pigs, but that seems very light for 5 month old pigs IME.:scratchhead: We try to kill ours (as advised by several friends that do know about pigs) at 90-100kg, but that would be at about 4 months old.

What breed are they, as that would make a difference to growth rates and how much fat they'll lay down on decent feed. I hasten to add that my (limited) experience is based on a couple of Durocs reared intensively for the freezer each year.:hungry:

Touch wood we have never had problems with boar taint up to 7 months, if that is what the OP is thinking of.
Then again we don't notice any smell from our pigs but is usually the first thing visitors comment on !

5 month old they want to be least 80 to just under 90kg I would say. But if you feeding them barley and scraps they will be a fair bit of fat on the meat I should imagen. I'v got some going Tuesday 19 week old they about the above weight but been on good feed.
