I don’t know how you came across that as what I meant ? I said use less fuel. Everyone wants to live as they have before farmers included. The truth of it is you can’t. So what’s the plan? Run your central heating a 80F until you run out of money or turn it down to 60 and make your money last longer. Likewise if you can’t pay your bills by working a 35 hour week you’ll need to do some overtime or look for a second job that’s the truth of it as a farmer you’ll know that’s how life works every day we get setbacks but we work round them. That’s what the general public need to know.
Buying fuel is not a choice i make since
Tractors run on it
Maybe i could buy a horse
Fuel protests are needed to get the duty down, pronto

A 50 year mortgage idea is nonsense from number 10 no bank in the uk will lend that.

Any government is going to love the idea. It's just another way of borrowing from our children so we can have growth and prosper today.
And when I say we, property owners just feel better off but all things be relative, unless you have invested in property, in makes no difference. It just fills the coffers of bankers and increases tax returns.

I can assure you over this way [Grimsby NE lincs] my joinery work has dried up massively .

Gone from worked booked 6 weeks plus in front and multiple calls /quotes a day to less than 3 call a week over last couple of months I have a great customer feedback do a good solid job [ no bodging]

The jobs I do quote not getting apart from odd little sub £100 jobs mainly age UK jobs [age uk trusted trader]. No one has got spare cash or not willing to spend it. Had customers trying to haggle on quotes all the time lately rather than the odd one been doing this over 20 years last time it was this bad was 2009 but this feels worse

All the best ghost rider
I’m just north of you in Beverley and that’s how it feels to me, people shelving work to use the money for fuel and food this coming winter, I know I’m thinking like that, cos if my work drys up for any length of time thing will get tight

I’m a joiner but specialize in kitchen fitting, I’ve been 20yrs self employed and found it easier and more lucrative to sub contract to local kitchen firms rather that look for general joinery work, only problem with it is when things go slack like back in 2008, it’s like starting again chasing little joinery jobs to make ends meet, I feel for you taking on a lad and investing in a new van with this looming recession but good on for doing it as I’ve grappled with the idea for years, could you pick up a bit of kitchen fitting for you both at Wren?

you are but 1 person, feeling the strain, how many more 1,000's are in the similar predicament ?
and as recession takes hold, problem will grow.
While we are a 'rich' country, or so they say, our wealth is not in making things, but money, in the city, and the service industry, to create permanent wealth, you have to have something physical to sell, not a service, and we don't, its been ignored.

They have not allowed recession for so long by staving it off with printing money , once they stop printing money the mother of all recessions will take take hold and unless they do something radical other than print money its going to be very big and very painfull .
In the longterm a proper recession would reset the balance, interest rates ought to be 5-7% too. Governments propping everything up is just a sticking plaster. Start sticking interest rates up 1% every 4 mths until we reach 5-7% and tell everybody its going to happen so they can brace themselves. House prices are stupid . Up the tax on owning multiple homes and holiday homes

but what is the best way to protest? burning more fuel in order to drive slowly down the motorway upsetting over busy folk who are also paying too much for their fuel is in my eyes just moronic. blockading depots and forecost would cause shortages and make the situation even worse. Only sensible protest would be for everyone to stay at home for 10 days and not use any fuel....
