Plenty of larvae to be found, but the plants are storming away. Doesn't appear to be stunting it at all. Shot on in the last week. Haven't applied any fert yet - dont want to encourage it too much. Will be getting a pgr

I'm checking every day at the moment because I now seem to be getting some pigeon damage. But apart from half a dozen pigeons in one corner the rest of the field had a covering of rooks surely they wouldn't be eating the rape???

Clever birds corvids, hazard a guess they have taken note of research and are ensuring a more balanced diet with a greater content of vegetables.

Put some nitrogen on all my OSR yesterday. The worst field is now going to have to be mostly barley. It is 60ac and I put nitrogen on half of it the rest is bare, it has gone backwards in the last month. Realistically I think there is a fair argument to start again on the whole field. The other 80ac looks ok but there is a lot of beetle damage and no doubt it is crawling with larvae.

It seems really random as to whether a field is bad or not. A neighbour has 2 fields that are near mine and one looks good and the other very poor.

The last couple of days my rape seems to be covered in crows could they be feeding on the larvae. I've never seen crows on osr before.
I noticed this last year. A thin looking crop and a mob of rooks on it. Thought that they must be eating it but remained undamaged - and pigeons stayed away.
Thought maybe they were after slugs??

I've got a field of rape being hammered by crows. Found Larvae in the centre of plants, which is now turning a brown colour.
Crows are know feeding on the larvae pecking the middle of the plant out.
Field sprayed once in autumn for CSFB.
Patches in other fields have got 6-8 larvae in main stem. Some fields were'nt sprayed for CSFB and others sprayed once. Seems worse where land is sandier.
All established well but seems to be going backwards in areas.
I give up with oilseed rape!!

I've been and watched the crows this morning with binoculars and the crows are very busy walking around pecking. Ì can't work out if they're doing harm or not, the rape looks to be going backwards in places but the crows seem to be picking on the ground or near the base of the plants but also some centre shoots have gone and there's quite a bit of defoliation.

Could be after pollen beatle I’ve seen a few around with the warm weather. Could be knocking them out the top and pecking them from the ground? Just a thought.

I’d say the rape would usually be too long most years for the crows to reach when the Beatles are about
