What’s happened to @Walterp? One minute he’s the most prolific poster in Christendom, then he’s vanished. Someone needs to say something controversial to liven things up: come on Walt:).
I think the old codger gets sectioned every so often for his own safety so he's probably really comfortable in La La Land with lots of medication:dead::dead::dead:

Walter is like a niggling conscience in the background. He is right basically.

No statesmen left to save the day.

He can be "right" all he wants, but his incessant whining like a spoiled brat doesn't improve the situation.

Someone wiser than me (Reinhold Niebuhr) once said:

"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference."

The current media obsession to 'sh!t the bed' every time someone says Brexit, or Donald Trump, it's leading to a nation wide mental breakdown. To quote your post "more and more like madness as each day goes by". And before you squeal like a pig and direct the angry mob to burn me at the stake, I voted remain. If Brexit succeeds or falls off the rails, trust me, it wont be due to a disgruntled bunch of middle aged white folk on a forum, working ourselves into a frenzy as Walter Price stirs the pot then buggers off.

And sadly you are right, there are "no statesmen left to save the day". Few (if any) of our elected representatives have the wit, intelligence or even charm to serve their country instead of their own self interest.

Don't worry. This happens quite regularly.
He starts some good topics then can't stop. We get flooded with them. He only replies if he can put down the the poster. If he can't there is silence.
Then he gets the hump on and threatens legal action to a few members.
Then he is gone.

Then some months later he comes back as if nothing has happened.
And so it goes on.

You too? I'd love to know what he drinks while he's on the internet, maybe he split his cocktail on the keyboard hence his absence.....:D

Funnily enough I hadn't noticed as I have him on ignore! I did it because he floods the forum with topics that sound interesting, but usually turn out to be an anti brexit whine. It wouldn't be so bad if he got involved with the discussions after starting the threads instead of going and starting another.

The further the Brexit fiasco unravels the more I wish there was an emergency stop button that could be hit right now.

I was originally UKIP, but resigned before the referendum due to niggling doubts and a distaste for what I saw. I have swung this way and that since but Walter is like a niggling conscience in the background. He is right basically.

At the minute we are like the Titanic about to hit the iceberg IMO. We think we are unsinkable and maybe we are but we are going to sustain immeasurable damage the way things are going. Pulling out of what is a free trade area with common standards at present looks more and more like madness as each day goes by.

That's my honest opinion. I don't care what anybody thinks about it either. The time for right wing hot head idealist spouting of dogma that will never work is over.

Mrs May and Boris are arguing over the position of the deckchairs. labour are ineffectual. Omnishambles all round. No statesmen left to save the day.

You give him far too much credit. He's not always right, just a good wordsmith. His posts often contain large doses of arrogance and condescension.....which detract from what would be good debate. I'd say he speaks like a typical Lawyer...they generally talk at you, not to you.

Agree with everything else you have written though. (y)

Well said. Something is afoot, I am convinced of it, we have not witnessed anything like this before and there is very little historical precedent to draw on.

My instinct is that a significant minority for a variety of reasons wish to reshape the culture of the west. That wish will (and is by evidence) intrude into every aspect of wider society and just as much personal life and freedom. That significant minority are convinced that what the west has done to get where it is today is a crime against all non-western countries and beliefs. They want that crime to be punished by tearing apart what our forebears created both physically and historically. They do not and will not tolerate a balanced view on any subject, they have created an 'ideology' that by its proposed application will right all wrongs and bring utopia about and that the end will justify the means.

This is going to be one hell of a fight, as there are the beginnings of a fightback coming from independent minded true academics, and, amazingly they are of both the left and right, and even more amazingly through deep thought and analysis they know that the left must curb the worst excesses of the right and the right must curb the excesses of the left but they recognise that they have a common enemy in that significant minority.

For those who are interested look up the podcasts from the likes of, Peter Thiel, Eric Weinstein, Stephen Pinker, Roger Scruton, Jordan Petersen, Ben Shapiro, Dave Rubin, Russ Roberts, Yuval Harari, Nassim Nicholas Taleb, Patrick Deneen, Iain McGilchrist, and Jonah Goldberg and there lots of others. If you want something really fascinating to listen to then try out any of these. They are so much better than the mainstream media, and they talk long enough to really discuss the details. The mainstream media led by the beeb now merely 'essentialises' current issues which serves no use whatsoever other than for the editors to goad some whilst trying to propagate their own bias.

I think dear old Wally has like many, taken their bait hook line and sinker so it is easy for him to stir it up a bit in here. Perhaps he is re-thinking and is about to make a volte-face and reappear reborn anew?
