Where did all the new Diesel cars go?

Just been looking to see what i can get in a new diesel car, they dont seem to be making them anymore, EG a ford has to be a Ranger or transit to be diesel.

Are late model diesels going to go up in value like low tax cars did a couple of years ago?

New diesels really are relatively clean but I doubt that much further development will go into their emission control system so you will need to factor in extra maintenance on those systems to get them to 300,000 plus as we have become used to.

For some strange reason VW have chosen to create their own fuel for their diesel cars in an effort to reduce emissions:

I will look out for that at the filling station next time.... could be worse than finding a fast charger thats working and vacant.

Exactly that!! Probably only 3 filling stations in the country will stock it or something silly. The hassle factor of it being so niche will kill the idea financially I would expect - it seems such an odd thing to do.

The epitome of sensible when it comes to a working car, the Dacia, still does a diesel in the range, but only 1.5l :) I wonder about a Duster as a runaround here.
Bought 2 yr old dacia duster here recently for some light farming and my runaround. Absolutely love it . Does exactly what it says on the tin.

I would imagine that forecourts will offer it as soon as it becomes more mass market. I'd buy HVO diesel for my car if I could- it's a drop in replacement for fossil diesel and far cleaner anyway.

A lot to do with microchips….supply of new vehicles has dried up in many cases…
Chip manufacturers moved over to producing chips for laptops gaming machines phones etc when the car plants closed due to Covid.
Apparently better profits to be had from them than from producing chips for the Automotive industry, so the are reluctant to return to manufacturing for the Auto business..
No doubt it will be resolved in time but will take a while.
Car plant will need to have guaranteed supply of everything required to build a production run of vehicles before they can get going….
One chip missing from the recipe means no go…..

I guess just in time delivery is fudged?
