Trade Secretary Liam Fox is reportedly open to importing chickens from the US in order to secure a post-Brexit trade deal.

Dr Fox is travelling to Washington DC where he will meet US trade representative Robert Lighthizer for two days of talks at the first UK-US trade and investment working group.

The American Farming Association is adamant any deal must include agriculture, meaning chickens, hormone-fed beef and genetically modified crops could be exported to the UK.
@Forage Trader You forgot to mention that the chicken will be chlorine washed ......

Nothing - apparently the QA team are chasing it up. When I phoned he recognised my query straight away, and I asked why. He said I was the only one to phone about something for some time...
Will phone again tomorrow as they really should be able to find the answer pretty quickly if the assurance means anything.

Just a quick update - phoned Aldi again today and they are still waiting for an answer from Quality Assurance. Apparently this has now been raised from lets not answer and she may go away, to oh, we may have to do something.

Just in the interests of fairness, I have started the same thing with Tesco. I tried Chat but was told they were too busy to look into it and gave me a phone number, which turned out not to be a Tesco number.
Phoned a different number and the lad said he would look into it and get back to me. He did phone a few hours later and apologised for not having an answer yet, but is looking into it and will contact me soon.

Will keep you all updated. I know you are biting your nails and on the edge of your seat...

@Old Boar Nail biting and almost falling off edge of seat being executed. Took the wise decision not to hold breath, abated a little. Updates of course awaited. :)

Out of interest what exactly have you told them you want to know?

What area the animal came from and the breed. Both were RT labelled and this information should not be hard to find if the RT is any good.

I'm wondering how the Red Tractor paper trail actually goes.
Is all the animals information from tag number to supermarket entered into a single system and it just needs someone who can access it, or does each link in the chain have to ask the previous link for the information.
What happens to the beasts passport and the information on it and who would have access to it?
Where was the animal born and where has it been ever since would be interesting not just which farm loaded it to go to the works.

I would expect that RT paper trail ends when the head is removed, passport dated with slaughter details and returned to CTS. After that any tracebility is by batch number.
A needle in haystack of 25 tonnes of meat, split into different cuts and cut in different plants too.
RT is a cosy illusion to sell a concept.
