After you've got it can you tell them that you are not paying the agreed price because although the original quality tests showed that it was to specification for some inexplicable reason it now isn't ! :scratchhead: :banghead: :banghead:

I thought we had plenty of wheat in store, and I thought we had our own mills in the UK - so why are the shelves continuously bare of flour? Any kind of flour? We seem to have everything else. My local Waitrose doesn't know when any will come in, but they occasionally get a bit, Tesco says May 11th - so there'll be a mile-long queue that day. I'm not ranting - just wondering why.
Not enough in small bags and I would guess some are not in a rush to re-bag so the price rises

Some time last year I found Lidl had a pallet of 10kg bags of Atta flour out on the floor. I bought a bag to try and found it made a very satisfactory loaf despite it being meant for flatbread type baking. Unfortunately it seemed to be a one off 'cos I haven't found it again.

Local Tesco usually has big bags (5kg)of Atta on the shelf in the Asian aisle & occasionally 10kg ones too although hit & miss at the moment.

Don’t want to hijack the thread, but on a similar note, when I heard a local big dairy farm was letting milk into the slurry pit three days a week because of low demand due to covid, I thought maybe I would take my old milk tanker along, fill her up at the farm and park in town with a tap on the back!!!

It is the bags that the floor goes in that is the problem, the paper mill is shut as they are all made in the same place .

Problem over here is they can't get hold of the bags because they were coming out of China. 10kg and 25kg bags have been available in supermarkets on and off. Always seem to miss out when they are available.

It does appear people have only just twiged that you can bake at home aswell....

Problem is that in normal times, only 3 - 4% of flour is sold in small bags. The majority is delivered in bulk or in larger bags to commercial bakers. More packaging machines and small bags are needed to meet the current increased demand for home baking.

got mine just as it started kicking off https://www.shipton-mill.com/

Its like anything we need to purchase more bulk bags. Messing about with 1kg bags is pointless but then you have to store it. Just proves how the old fashioned pantry worked and these silly little kitchen cupboards are naff.

16kg from Nelstops as posted above £15.50 that's 96p/kg. Wife got 1.5kg from Morrisons £1.00 that's 66p/kg.
