Im just stimulating debate!
2 yrs since i burned it, last year took it to DB wools, got £600 for 100 mule, 850 swaledale and 50 bluefaced Leicester, been a breath of fresh air DB wool hasnt it, getting us a bit of something for our wool.
They robbed you, the BFL wool is worth that on its own, the Swale is worth 40p a kilo at the compost place and the mule a bit more.

We are going to go round and round in circles again!
The expenses at the wool board were very high leaving hardly anything in my pocket, i was delighted with the £600.

I was talking to the CEO earlier this week saying 5hey need to get their prices out ASAP so farmers know what they are doing. Herdwick for instance has regularly been selling at 80p a kilo and BFL at £12 a kilo, obviously there are on costs and haulage has gone up a lot but they should be able to pay us back a fair bit on the more popular wools. Standard white wool hasn’t shifted as much as the world is swamped with it but manufacturers are slowly starting to use British wool instead of being lazy and buying Merino.

Why haven’t they got prices out now, shearing hoggs is in full swing and people need to know what they are doing with the wool.

HD Wools collected 39 sheets from me end of March.

They quoted £1/kg for white and £1.40/kg for coloured. Both Shetland wool.

As BFL has been selling for over £12, the wool board should be paying over £11/kg.

I'll believe that when I see it. What's the betting they'll be paying £3-4/kg

What its worth and what they pay us are 2 entirely seperate things unfortunately.
When we are 'delighted' to recieve under half its value at DB wools it shows how the system is failing badly.

Is there British wool which compares to Merino in quality and consistency?

No it is mostly very different and will be below 20 micron.
Very little British Wool is below 30 micron.

However BFL has been selling at a premium price and even Herdwick is in demand through BW.

If you want to get ripped off this year then sell to the private buyers.
One of them went bust last year and failed to pay for what they had taken!

You don't know what you'd have received for that wool from the Board yet, as it wouldn't have been paid out yet. British Wool collect and auction it for us, not buy it from us.
Is £700 for it, a year in arrears, better than £600 in your hand? My overdraft rate certainly isn't that high.

My cashflow is f**ked. I'd take £350 in my hand compared to £700 in 12 months 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️

My biggest issue is getting help when Shearer's turn up , you never can say for certain which day they will come so you can't reliably tell anyone for certain which day or days you need them , last yr I shoved ewes up the race and Wife slung the fleece in big heap ( 3 Shearer's) had 4 stops , few days later I went scooped all heaps up with loader into corn trailer and tipped in a heap in a wood , same will happen this yr ,

You are correct that they market the for us but they also take their cut to cover costs first and pass on what evers left, if any. At least selling to the private buyers you know what your selling it for.

Could be a market for some young entrepreneur to take on the wool wrapping for the the wool. Take a gamble on the value 🤷

Not gonna lie… I’m an avid wool board supporter but I’d they don’t release some prices soon and do something too make us feel at ease about the job I’ll have too jump ship this year… my cash flow is in a mess at the moment due too some unforeseen circumstances and I can’t afford too be turning down prompt payment especially when it’s too pay more than triple the value of the wool board…
