Where to get a fifth wheel dolly?

I borrowed a couple of curtain siders off a mate for some extra storage and used one of these to pick them up. Really really nice bit of kit, if I was going to buy one I’d definitely be looking at one of these but would need to be doing a lot of work to justify the price! Think they will build more basic models though.

My brother made me one last year, sliding 5th wheel so I could alter the weight,it came in at less than ÂŁ500 but O did use the drawbar off an old drag trailer.

Brake Pipes and Electrical connections can be difficult if you get into tight corners with the Dolly screwed right around (it happens)
Needs to be plenty spare ….which creates the problem of what happens when you are all straight.
Sprung Coiled air connections are the answer…if you have air brakes…as with Electrical…but they need to be long.

They didn't go mad with the size of box section for the drawbar

For off highway use surely spending the money on an integral drawbar which transfers a significant weight into the tractor is more practical than adding dead weight to the trailer which then needs more weight on the tractor for traction.
If the aim is when on the highway to tow with a proper HGV then I can see the point.

A lot is to do with manoeuvre ability, you can put a 40ft trailer with a dolly into a tighter space than a 30ft trailer with fixed drawbar

I made mine, good piece of kit , and I got someone competent to weld it together , no brakes , prefer them on the trailer
