Where's your spend going to be in 2018 ?

Most do work like that now CB. Only the very expensive add bells and whistles. At the end of the day, there are numerous on line sites where you can build your own album from the photo files, at all price points/qualities. It’s also quite a fun job to do.

Might as well ask the guests to take photos and post them to a google album and print selected images as required. I've been to a wedding that did that but they also had a paid photographer. Not sure that he was just paid for his time? Could be I suppose.

A 'professional' photographer just would not do this. He/she would want to post-process the raw files properly rather than just shoot jpeg and present files straight out of camera as they were shot, which is all you'd get for £500 all-in I strongly suspect. OK as a weekend hobble, no doubt.

In no particular order.
The kids (as ever!)
A new forager (ordered), a new quad, a new(er) tractor, 3 wheeled feeders
Possibly a new pickup, possibly a newer flatbed trailer.
May look at new(er) car and last but not least flying machine of some description.

That is quite a list of spending :greedy::greedy:
Yeah, that lot would keep me quiet for a decade. Mind you, come to think of it I have bought a new tractor, newish telehandler, new flat bed, new stock trailer, new quad and new pickup in the last 18 months. Having said that, the bigger purchases are on the drip so the cost is spread out and in my defence I'd been trying to avoid changing anything for a few years and it came to the point where we couldn't really carry on without updating them. Lesson learnt!

They post process them and put them on a USB.

if you average one a week for £500 that’s a living not a hobby.

The photographer needs to actually understand what makes a good photo. Half the work is done on the day. The rest of the time he sits and culls any photos that don't work and then process the remainder. This of course is not the work of a few minutes and you need some serious software and computing power as well.

The net result is that a few weeks later a flash drive is in the post with a set of hi-res photos on it. You have the option of letting the photographer create your album for you but it will be several hundred pounds more on top with a huge range of options in it's creation.

Also, our photographer as part of the actual wedding fee, lets couples have a personal and select photo session on another day- we are going to have ours done once the second baby has arrived. Of course the setting etc is up to you, it can be anywhere. A number of couples choose to have a session done of them together in a 'natural' setting before they are married, in regular clothes, with their dog or whatever, something that captures the essence of them as a couple.

As I said, having a degree in fine or classical art gave the bloke a huge advantage because he could appreciate the need to create something, not just capture it. His partner meanwhile, was doing the lighting and capturing photos of both parties whilst they were getting prepared. Having arrived by helicopter to the event, my preparation mostly consisted of champagne and getting my cravat tied.

The more personal touches you have in a wedding I think, the better.

Also if you think a wedding is expensive, wait till you find out about kids.

I am well versed in the arts of children and baby related hardware, :sneaky: you think a pick up thread has legs, wait till you get to the prams. Easier to buy a fully tricked out 300hp JD than a pram these days; prams have a larger range of options...
We just bought the first pram we liked the look of as it was on sale. Been ok so far! Have 3 now (for ine baby) the first one we bought a small compact one that lives in the car and a second hand one that stays on the farm. All have good and bad points i can well believe it would be a longer thread than a which pickup thread!

The girl doing them is in her early 20s not long out of college or werever she qualified so she had to be cheaper than the rest to get a foot in amongst the competition. We will get 200 edited pictures on a USB stick and she said we can have all the unedited ones too if she is happy with themfor the £500. We already had a little hour and a half family shoot on the farm with her to see what she was like £80 for 20 edited pictures and the best of the rest unedited on a USB again. Easy to get things printed off yourself now a pile of those pictures and 3 canvases we ordered ourselves arrived yesterday they look really good.
The only rights she wanted was the option to put some of the best on her FB page which we agreed to to help her out. We could have opted not to though.

Fair play. Like you say, you need to look at their previous works.

Actually Hendrebc, I am not sure how long until your wedding but if you want to wow your guests, get you and the o/h to proper dance lessons and don't tell anyone. When your first dance comes on you can really smash out something impressive and knock their socks off.

We were planning to do the above but a pregnancy intervened.

Which reminds me, how to upset your dress maker in 1 easy step: tell them you're pregnant.:ROFLMAO:

No money will be spent on the Farm this year other than the usual running costs. Few projects on the cards that will be where the time and effort will be spent.

Refurbish the 40 year old beet harvesters now that I have found a source of spare parts from a company in Birmingham that has been going since 1832. This way I can compete with world market prices for sugar.

I won't sell the cattle or sheep as they scavenge the by products from the arable crops.

I really fancy a new muck spreader though to cope with all the horse muck I now import

I might also buy a plasma cutter to help refurbish old trailers and kit.

This is a completely honest answer.

I might also buy a metal detector as a hobby.
I'll sell you a plasma cutter. It's a good one, just don't use it as prefer chop saw. £200. PM if you want pics.

Always take opportunities if they are available ;)

Oh God no!!! Not that dreadful Americanism the carefully choreographed dance routine!

Where bride, groom, flowergirls, mother /father of the happy couple etc indulge in some hideously hammy fake disco atrocity to some bloody awful track by Lady Gaga / Little Mix /Spice Girls /delete as appropriate / dragged out of the popbin, while they manage to make it look like incredibly hard work and be utterly pleased with themselves at the same time.

It makes you long for the old days.

Dancing should be fun. Let everyone get a few drinks down their neck, turn the music up and stand back and let the buggers at it! When the floor's crowded and everyone's merry as f**k it can't be beat

No no no, something proper, not something out of X factor, the sort of thing you need a professional coach for.
