Which 5G smartphone?

My trusty iPhone 4S which I have had since '13 or '14 is coming to the end of its life. I am looking for a new phone with android operating system. Samsung look good. Are they any others that are worth looking at.

TIA

From the Vodafone coverage maps it looks as if the transmitters only have the ability to reach about 4 to 500 meters, a bit more for ‘outdoor’ coverage. As such it sounds like a non starter for rural areas.

Most phones now are 5G, not that I think it is something to worry about. Until there is a full roll out, you are best to check what coverage you can get, rather that what phone you have.

Had a great deal with 3 through my work, but the coverage was shocking, despite what they say on their website and advertising. I since changed to SKY mobile and a new iPhone 12 as it was at the right price.

Coverage is much better, but since having it, I have only had 5G once in a specific area of Bristol. The speeds were fantastic though. 168 Mbps download and 41 Mbps upload. Not that I am sure what I would do with those speeds with a mobile phone. You would get the benefits of HD video calling, but not sure you would really notice the difference due to the screen size.

Where it will change is when the 5G rollout is complete. I can see no need for a broadband connection if you can get a decent data allowance and tether you home computer to your phone?

As for the phone, there are die hard Apple fans as well as Android. I was once dedicated to the Blackberry before they stopped making their own phones and went to Android. Would never have dreamed at looking at a iPhone, but got a 7 and then upgraded to the 12.

This is worth a read

I have a Motorola Moto G 7+
The G8 features in Tricky's link

Why Android if you have stuck with a 4S so long?
Maybe seen the light? :ROFLMAO:

5G lol, you must be blessed with good coverage.
We can barely get 2G on any network with the wind behind it.
I find it hugely annoying when government and press rave about the latest 'G' when we can't even get 3G most of the time.
Anyway I think there is a samsung phone with a 7000mah battery, the Galaxy M51 come out recently.
I'd give that some consideration. For me battery capacity is king. for others maybe that is less important.
It maybe not be 5G thou, not sure...
But for me 5G is next to useless.

One of the reasons I upgraded from the 7 to the 12. My 7 battery had dropped from 100% to 78% and came up with service, which meant they wanted me to get a new battery put into it.

I can easily get 1 1/2 days usage out the 12.

I would avoid Chinese branded phones on principle. They copy and steal designs and therefore jobs. Stick to Samsung, maybe Motorola [because it innovates rather than copies], and other big names not the here-today-gone-tomorrow names that have proliferated in recent years. Nokia is an interesting brand, now Indian and very well priced that is worth looking at.

Avoid Huawei and Honor like the plague as they are part of and indistinguishable from the Chinese Communist Party.
