Might be looking to change combine pre harvest and just looking for others experiences with Claas, New Holland, MF and John Deere. Regularly cutting wheat between 20-25%, sometimes for crimping at 35%! Heavy crops with big straw yields are the norm. Straw quality is important too so probably walker machine.

We have altered our combining a bit over the last few years using an axial flow 2388, nh tf78, nh cr980 and now into a claas lexion. The axial flow and cr 980 will cut wet but its a chore for them. The tf78 was much better than both but from what we saw last year in some 25% wheat the lexion wins hands down. However the claas has a very poor cab by todays standards and is a more complicated machine to maintain. My neighbour has a STS john deere and that also does not like wet grain and our lexion 580 was running rings around it in the wet wheat we wanted to get into the shed.

You'll need a rotary separator too, if you are needing to put wet crop through a straw walker machine. You can always let the separator concave down if it is dry & you don't want to damage the straw but are happy to lose some capacity.

What size do you need i.e. how many acres are you cutting?

JD CTS copes well with wet crop - we ran one 2000-2005 and I recall cutting nearly 100ac of beans one day in october with the wipers on all day once ! pity there was no heater in the cab just aircon !

Running a lexion 580tt cutting about 400 acres for crimping. Handles it well, never blocked it yet , but I go steady. It doesn't smash the straw up when crimping or cutting wheat above 18%. Only time it really smashes it is when it's been sprayed of and cutting on hot days . But all the straw is still there !! and it beds well , I don't know why people don't like rotary combine straw !

Because it's nigh on impossible to bale!

C670. No longer available new in the UK but there will be plenty of second hand ones about.

W Series has straw walkers. T Series has walkers & a rotary separator. S Series is a single rotor like the Axial Flow.

C Series & CTS are the same thing. Normal drum & a rotary separator feeding into twin rotors instead of straw walkers. Much like a Lexion rotary but without the APS pre separator drum.

Wouldn't bother with a t series deere. Neighbour has a 6walker version and hates it. I went on it for a while this last harvest and the c series was running rings around it in same field. They just cant seem to cope with big straw crops like the rotors do .

I personally think the 2200 series was the last decent deere walker combine

I was reading an old profi magazine the other day, they was an article on shelbourne stripper headers, is this a real alternative for crimping / damp conditions? I really feel for the combine when the drum starts groaning! (Not sure how you would save the straw though)
