What are you doing to overheat the batteries?
Drilling! Several jobs recently have required making quite a few 13mm holes in mild steel in spots that I couldn't get a mag drill in. It would usually be less than 5 minutes use before the battery would get hot and have to be swapped over. I still have my old Hitachi (plug in rather than the newer slide batteries) and was able to run that constantly each time until the only working battery was flat - barely even getting the chill off it.

I can drill 16mm holes all day with my Milwaukee in shed girders etc and it doesn't bother it one bit it will try to break your arm if you don't hold on to it, but is brilliant battery's last ages

No one mentioned Bosch? I have 2 , in use every week and never missed a beat. Oldest one will be 8 years old and done some serious work.

My experience with Makita has been poor battery life, bought grinder with the then standard 3ah batteries and they lasted just out of 12mth guarantee :poop:.
Worse still the new 5ah batteries are said to be incompatible with my grinder although I think they could be easily made to fit. Anyone tried despite advice to contrary, to use the 5ah batteries?

I would always check out AEG tools as they have many of the same components as Milwaukee (both owned by the same company) but usually cheaper.

Had an AEG drill for years and handed it down to my dad and its still going. Yes its a good drill but the top spec Milwaukee is in a different league even though they are made/owned by the same group.

Got an old 14V Makita which I keep for light duties. On its second (or third ?) clutch, it was bought for the metal gears which I thought would give it a long life. The gearbox shrieks, the chuck seizes and after a few minutes hard work either the battery dies or the drill overheats and smoke pours out the back. Apart from that it's as good as the day I bought it. :)

Ive got 5ah that work perfectly well on some 3ah tools I got 4 years ago ,unless makita have change the fitting on them in the last 12 month .
Bought an sds twin 18v that came with 4ah batteries but the 3 and 5 fit it ,,looking at the 6ah but abit pricey

Think trade counters direct are cheapest at the moment (I think) for drill, two batteries, charger and case. Click here.

The other Milwaukee drills are lower spec.

Guarantee is actually 3 years when you register the tool.

You can get those quick release adaptors for any drill.

Is this still the best offer and drill? It has unbelievable torque. Is it much of a compromise going for 4ah batts instead of 5ah??
