There was a bloke who worked on a farm next door who used to keep a pair of slippers in the cab, and always took his boots off before he got off the top step!

We do the same in the forestry machines except just socks (no slippers) since we have really thick rya rugs in them, does wonders for the perceived comfiness in the cab. (If you've never tried it you are missing out! )

And if we ever do find a newer tractor for the right price that would be the first customisation done to it...

Indeed, for some forms of driving, particularly rallying, left foot braking is very very useful.

Nigh on required even, as there are some cases where you want to brake and then apply throttle with as little delay between the two as possible.

Always the right foot, forget you have a left one.............keeping your right foot on the gas and using your left foot for braking is an accident waiting to happen...one foot only required, the right one.
I don't follow you. Why is using the left foot to brake 'an accident waiting to happen'? Its just a matter of which foot you are used to, or get used to using. There's no reason whatsoever why your left leg and foot couldn't be trained to use the brake pedal in an automatic. I don't use it, but cannot think of a singe convincing reason why it shouldn't be.

Right foot braking for me, if I attempt a left foot I will probably end up through the screen.:nailbiting:
Only until you got used to it though, which shouldn't take long. Bracing yourself with your right foot instead of your left may be more problematic in some cars than others though.

Having said all of the above, I'm sticking to left foot braking.

If you got into a situation where things were unstable, rough and bumpy I should think a foot on each pedal would be a disaster waiting to happen. Fine strapped down in a bucket seat with a harness but loose and slopping round in a three point would mean you may need a foot for stability, no good if it’s planted on the brake!

Hence my very next post. However, I really don't think it is an issue where there is a throttle footrest, or possibly if not. I get by fine in the skid-steer loader with two constantly used rocking foot pedals, for instance, and that is an extremely bumpy place to sit.

I've been thinking more about this and realised that I don't actually know, or aren't aware of a single person that does actually left foot brake as a normal driving technique. Is this because the vast majority of people learn to drive on manual cars I wonder?

If you are using both you have the potential to have your foot on the gas while holding the vehicle on the brake.........one slip and the vehicle takes off

I have never seen anyone drive an auto that way, your choice of course.
You need to take off smartly at some of our junctions, not all have lights here in GB

Digger brake pedals can only be accessed by the left foot.

Pickup brake pedal is huge, as if it was designed for either foot.

Tractor has throttle pedal in the middle !! Now I thought that was odd, but when filling spud trailer, and looking over right shoulder, left foot falls nice and easy on the throttle for adjustment.

Left foot is for the clutch, you dont now have a clutch so keep it out of the way. The dodgy thing is when driving an auto for the first time is using your left foot to press the "clutch" .....it stops quite quicky!

Racing drivers use left foot braking to shift the balance when entering corners don’t think you’ll need that in your Datsun pickup... but In wet grass fields it’s good fun to get it sliding in corners

If you are careful, you can learn to use both. Initially you will find the non-used leg over-brakes all the time, which certainly could be dangerous, but over a short time you will get the feel of the car and be able to use it light your right no problem. Indeed, for some forms of driving, particularly rallying, left foot braking is very very useful.
They put 'the picks' in the middle for good reason (y) takes a bit to master it but it has saved me a few cars  :D

Interesting watching the comeback of the southpaws in this poll. It was 96% favoured right foot early on but we’re now down to less than 85%

Personally I don’t have issues with either method. For me generally on the road, my left foot being the clutch foot, jump in an auto it has a nice rest (makes up for all those years of clutching!!).

I’m not Juha Kankkunen either so won’t pretend I know the first thing about heal and toe.

Anyone hero’s here heal and toe’d a slushbox recently?:D
