I was wanting to upgrade my Trimble FM250

it has great accuracy but I would like a bigger screen and something that’s easier to put field numbers in for.

It’s mainly used for spraying cereal and putting in the tramlines, pre ems and slug peppering etc

Options are so far.
Secondhand JD 1800 with itc and agar bridge link to give egnos

New Trimble gfx350

or Patchwork.

The Trimble looks the best but patchwork a bit cheaper and might add section control at a later time which would be simpler.

Does the patchwork give 30cm accuracy in real-time like my Trimble has??

I bought a gfx 350 back in the spring to replace an ageing Leica Minimojo, The reason I bought it as you could add section control and autosteer later on if you want. I also think that you can do a virtual section control with it.

I like the idea of Trimble and prices aren’t too bad compareds to what a local company quoted when first out.
Are the usb GPS receivers any good though? Is there a reason why Trimble and the likes have different priced receivers in big boxes or are the big boxes for show and it’s just patch antennas inside??

Depends which one you buy, but anything based on the Ublox F9P will be comparable or better than any 'real' GPS receiver, and will be fully RTK capable if you ever want it. The main reason the domes on commercial units are so big is the internal ground plane - the antenna is near enough the same. If you put a patch antenna on a flat metal surface you will have excellent performance.
I can recommend the SimpleRTK2B series of receiver kits from Ardusimple.

Cheap windows tablet, USB GPS receiver and AgOpenGPS?
Could be done for less than £300 if you buy a used computer. Would be fully upgradeable to RTK and autosteer, section control, etc if you wanted in the future, too.
Is AgOpenGPS really as simple as plug and play after buying the right hardware? Some of the reading on the AgOpenGPS forum isn't the easiest of reading! I would say I'm fairly computer minded too.

The basics are simple to set up and with just a GPS receiver it is pretty much plug and play.
Of course there are more advanced ways of using it, and many of the discussions are from people trying to do something different, or experimenting with a new feature, etc.

You can download the software to your PC and play with it in simulator mode, to see if you like it before committing anything.

I see tractor gps is doing another reasonable priced one with 1m accuracy with field bee software. Wonder if it could be upgraded with better receiver? It’s the receiver but that confuses me. Almost looks like rtk is easier to achieve as diy as decent 30cm accuracy
