My first one was about £20 and was more of a grinding wheel with rough raised 'diamonds'. It worked OK but I felt that it generated too much heat.
I then bought one with 3 blades at around £100. Much better but expensive.
You could try the £20 one first and see how you get on. Good for learning with and less liable to do damage, just don't keep it on hoof too long at once.

I have a DL disc so like what the trimmer has but with a back plate so it doesn't take such big chunks off at one time. I've had it probably 18 months now and taken me most of that to be confident in using it properly.

mine is one of these
having 7 teeth means it is set to take little nibbles rather than only 3 teeth taking big bites
been here 5 years and never changed a tooth or sharpened it
Yours looks in better order than mine :)

Mines near worn out,it was savage for a start but once it hit a few stones it's been grand(y) like you never touched mine, think the blades will be seized up now.

I've never used a grinder, sometimes think i should give one a try but worry about taking too much off or taking a chuck out of my hand!!

I have this one, was expensive, but i wouldn't be without it, far faster and kinder than a knife and it is quite hard to take too much off.
Those rough grinding discs should be banned.
