Sorry to hear you got a bad go, Angus heifers from extreme holsteins by any chance? Some types of cattle you could have a summers work for little return.
Its an expensive lesson too learn but we’ve all done it. I did it with lim heifers out of grass rats. put me off them for life. Kept them 12 months and still only got £500 minus auction costs at the end. But they were better gone.

Herefords out out friesian as far as I know. We’re a sickly bunch when I got them. Used more antibiotic in first week with them than I did in the previous batches full 16 months with me

3/4 years ago I had some bulls from a “reputable” calf rearer. Used bottles and bottles of Jab. Even though they were supposedly vaccinated. At 6 months I called the knackerman and shot 4 of them. Complete dead loss. But they were eating and not growing an atom.
Get them gone bud, honestly it’s not nice but better gone and get yourself something better

It’s making me question if it’s worth it at all for all the amount I can have

How many "empty" fields have you got, by empty I mean ones with nothing grazing them, you are likely going to have better grass growth if you can graze less of your acres - even if it means feeding your animals haylage in the short term

grazing is like surfing, if you get on the right part of the wave it seems effortless but anywhere else on the wave means "surfing is hard" IYSWIM

Hard to make a call on what to quit, most people would be loathed to sell breeding ewes unless forced, which probably makes that worth considering.
Cheap stores on the other hand, they will be easy buying and hard selling I would assume.

But yeah, back to the top, can you slow down your grazing rotation by subdividing fields or consolidating mobs, that's cheapest

I would reckon if the calves have had that bad a start, pouring expensive feed over their necks will only add to the losses. As said above I would take your medicine and shift them on
First loss is the best loss. Sounds like they're not going to make you any money by keeping so get rid and get something better, at least you will have learnt from the experience and I've never found a good education comes cheap.

Have you had your soil tested because I'm sure a lot of hen muck can lock up various minerals over time, it's not a balanced fertilizer like "proper" muck.

Sorry might of missed it , but what ages are they? Any pictures of them? Maybe stick them on that sellmylivestock website, seems to be plenty of screws advertised on that. Dairy x beef cattle always need a bit of age I find.

Have most fields spilt at least once with electric fence. Moved 3 batches this morning so have 12 paddocks without any animals. 3 paddocks where sheep moved off are ate but rest have regrowth on them even if it’s a little
