All supply of western agri, construction, transport & mining/quarrying machinery should be instantly stopped to Russia.
Which manufacturer 1st?
- stop all new and used machines
- stop all product support
- stop all parts supply
- disable machines remotely if possible
- mothball all dealerships
- cancel all investment & future investment
always been playing with the devil.

It will be interesting to see how the 'western' Ag manufacturers with a big Russian presence get on.
Claas?
Horsch?
Deere?
Etc

Can all of the modern hi-tec machinery be kept going without a complex supply chain of parts, by a 'percussion engineer' in a smiddy like the old Zetors and Fortschritts (GDR made Bonhills)?

On the upside, all of the 12 month waiting lists from western manufacturers to European destinations will be slashed. If they're not able to export say Deere tractors or Mercedes cars from Germany to Russia, will they be able to replace the cyrillic warning stickers with roman lettering, and sell all of Ivans ready made and pre ordered machinery?

It will happen automatically as the world has stopped SWIFT bank payments from Russia. Very few will send item to Russia knowing they cant get paid.
and they reinstate swift in 12months time and its game on again....
western companies should take a strong stance on this right now to further ratchet pressure
writing-off investments and leaving the Russian gov to rot in their own mess

or carrot and stick approach,
good behaviour = reengagement

I understand the emissions regulations are not as stringent going into Russia, so ordered machines have to find another market or swap engines to comply. Major headache for manufacturers as combines are ordered in hundreds.

Simple,
Eu relaxes the emissions levels on this very small number of machines & any pipeline engines for 12months.
eu now seem to be able to move their arse all of a sudden!
All things possible with war as the backdrop!

Maybe Deere and co should look at telemetry so they can switch off all their tractors remotely.

Would have a big impact but then maybe also a big reprisal

The technology exists now, but no manufacturer would do it. It would be commercial suicide, not just in Russia but globally. Given that people are partial to a conspiracy theory at the best of times, would any farmer buy a machine if it had been demonstrated that it could be controlled by "the government"? Ours, or 'theirs'.

As it is, your smart electric meter has the lowest form of network security imaginable, and with a little bit of effort every smart meter on the entire network could have it's password randomly changed by hackers after being switched to 'off', permanently disabling it. Advance that idea to farm machinery with 'smart' 'over the air' real time software updates, and in the not too distant future a state sponsored hacker could destroy a nations ability to feed itself and bring a country to it's knees, without firing a single shot.

Should they do the same to the UK and the USA for their Middle East wars?
whats going on in ukraine right now is in slightly different context
but agree... tony blair/brown walked uk right into the bog.... should never have been over in iraq for sure & if US hadnt engaged with old bin-liner & then done the dirty on him twin towers wouldnt have happened. certainly i would like to think uk wont be led bindfolded by someone like blair again without alot more scrutiny.

on this one, if you were poland, slovakia, romania, moldova, hungary and then all their secondary neighbours like austria etc would you rather have a stable eu leaning ukraine as your neighbour or would you rather have putin and his gangster mentality?

It's nothing to do with stability it's a few politicians and their mates attempting to make billions out of the situation, the older generation follow the media blindly. Thank God the younger generation aren't as gullible.

Remember the same media told us that we were going to die within 48 hours with covid, whilst Boris and co were having parties. The world is controlled by a handful of families the rest of us are plebs.

Trouble with stopping the supply of tractors or implements is that it affects the farmers, the ones like you and me, not Putin or his friends.

There's a knock on affect with the supply of food to the country which inevitably affects the population but not Putin and his friends, so the ordinary man/woman suffers terribly not the people your trying to stop

I bet if anyone rocked up to any company with a van full of dollars, euros, pounds or any other currency to pay for a big order it would be accepted no problem, there’s not many morals in big business

Yes but In 12 months time Russia may have a different leader. If so then you can’t punish the farmers and the people.

For anyone interested in reading up on ‘smart meter vulnerabilities’ this is the source, an academic paper from Cambridge Uni.
It makes for interesting reading.

If they walk away from thier dealers/customers they might aswel stop sellin there permanently. If the shoe was on the other foot and it was u was at the recieving end of such a proposal would u ever buy a machine from said company again, i certainly wouldnt. Your also forgetting that theres plenty of tractors made in russia so do u think that putin will be beat by the likes of jd,agco or cnh? If hes not feared of the usa and thier army hel not be too worried what some agri manufacturer is doing

& if you were a ukrainian farmer right now with russian tanks ripping across your farm? and being faced with being vacuumed out a decent way of life and being dumped behind whats going to be a dark russian curtain at the end of all this?
all sanctions are going to hurt the russian population badly but sorry this is war and russia making its own bed.... doesnt matter if its only a tiny minority at the top.
even if putin does change direction quickly, which isnt looking likely, its a vastly changed landscape going forwards.
